Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason

How would this hypothetical starting rotation rank among the rotations of the 30 MLB teams?

Freddy Peralta
Pablo Lopez
Robbie Ray
Zack Littell
Taijuan Walker

The Mariners traded away those five starters during Jerry Dipoto's tenure in Seattle. No judgment. ;)

Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason

I'm wouldn't be too upset if they went with Geno. I just don't want to see Williamson near this baseball team until he drops a .900 OPS in the minors for a prolonged period of time. Cal Raleigh did not maintain a .900 OPS over his 210 games in the minors: https://www.baseball-reference.com/register...

Three Venezuelans on the Mariners' 40-man roster -- Leo Rivas, Eduard Bazardo and Jhonathan Diaz -- apparently are not playing in the Venezuelan Winter League, which faces an uncertain immediate future after the U.S. attack: https://worldbaseball.com/the-latest-mlb-players-stuck-in-venezuela-after-m...

Re: Infield options for next year

FWIW FanGraphs projects Ben Williamson with a 2026 wRC+ of 94. In 2001 the Mariners won 116 games when third baseman David Bell posted a wRC+ of 90.

Defense has value.

Re: Infield options for next year

The 2025 video highlights for Cole Young and Ben Williamson omit the low lights:

... but are entertaining nonetheless.

A St. Louis podcaster suggests a vague trade of Nolan Arenado and JoJo Romero to the Mariners:

Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason

Only 98 PA sample for Pedroia. Jose Ramirez age 21 season wasn't much better with similar PAs as Cole: Screenshot 2025-12-23 143146.png All fine and dandy. My stance is the M's cannot afford for Cole Young to do what Ramirez did in his first 2 years. If he does what Pedroia did in year 2, I'll full...

Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason

Compare Dustin Pedroia's age 22 season with Cole Young's age 21 season: https://www.sports-reference.com/stathead/tiny/TEdEi It's a longshot that Young will have a Pedroia career but anything is possible. I am curious about the difference in Defensive evaluation between Stathead and Fangraphs. This...
