Re: Young for Marte?
5 years or so ago, Jerry wouldn't have dreamed of trading Kelenic for an established major leaguer and we know how that turned out...

Re: Young for Marte?
but the Mariners obviously have a different opinion. Yep, that opinion is he costs less and IF he becomes a good hitter they can puff their chest out about how he was home grown. Getting production out of cheaper players is a core part of the strategy. You may not like it, but that's what they're d...

Re: M's sign Mitch Garver to minor league deal.
I think I would, yes. Dan Wilson will play the aging vet who used to produce more than the guy who's never done anything, imo. Especially if he's owed millions. They'll want to see some playing time for their money. If Knizer on the roster means 10 fewer games where we see the backup catcher, we'll...

Re: Rest of the off season poll
If they want to use Cal at DH then one of the those guys will have to be on the bench obviously. It is total Frankenstein roster construction and if they would have just got one good right fielder they could have had another utility in Fielder but now they only have room for one. It's just idiotic ...

Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason
I think it involves the deadline but it's not deciding if you're going for it as much as extending the runway deal with your younger players. It isn't so much making a decision on a trade but delaying a decision into the season. And I think it's been how dipoto has been operating. He's tended to lo...

Re: The official Hot Stove League Thread 2025-26 Offseason
So another day of looking at Mariner news and seeing just pictures of crickets and tumbleweeds. Help me understand their logic. We pick up two veteran ball players at the deadline which pushes us to one game from the prize. We sign one vet and yet lose two others to FA. The front office cannot expe...

Re: Infield options for next year
Defense shmefense. Defense will never give you a lead. And a lead is the only thing that will ever give you a win. Get bats. Score runs. Win. Yep. But it’s nice to have both. Ergo, Okamoto is a safer bet. IMHO. As I said in another thread, if Williamson can't be at least an average MLB hitter he's ...

Re: 50 worst players in Ms History
Don't know if the numbers match the perception, but in the last couple years of his life, my dad absolutely hated Jose Paniagua. After a while, every time Paniagua entered the game, dad would announce that the Mariners were sure to lose now, turn off the TV and head for bed
