For what we gave up we got a good deal. Once our idiot owners nixed the original better deal for Leake in May there was no way we could go back cap in hand and get that same offer.

These fucking dolts wasted $10 million for 2 months of a mediocre starting pitcher, all to maintain some appearance of something, who knows what, in a season where wins are meaningless - even detrimental to their long-term goals. Sorry, but this team will never win anything under this ownership.
Maybe. But maybe we should let the ownership spend an extra $10 million if it chooses to. This money has no impact on next year's payroll or the year after that. If the ownership is willing to spend $10m more than it has to this year, who am I to argue? Go ahead. I mean that's on them.

Right now the only contract I can think of that is a real pain in the butt is Seager. But I believe he only has 2020 left on his contract but I could be wrong on that.

I agree that any money saved or spent on this year's payroll won't impact future years. The bigger issue is wondering if this example of blatant ownership meddling is just the tip of the iceberg.

Effing ownership!!!!
Dipoto says Caballero was the guy they were discussing with Arizona back in May when ownership nixed the deal.
Divish states that deal was the Mariners sending $10M to the DBacks and that ownership nixed it either for financial reasons or timing reasons. And considering that the Mariners ate over double that in money today, I’m guessing it was the latter reason.

Worked out in the end I guess
Read in to this what you will, personally I find it quite unsavoury how management have now more than once briefed against players to the press. Also noted how this is the second "fiery competitor" to fall out with the management.
Leake has lived with the possibility of being traded all season after the team tried to move him in the offseason. With the team in rebuild mode and looking to remove guaranteed Major League contracts, he seemed like a logical candidate. His relationship with manager Scott Servais and the coaching staff was icy at best. A fiery competitor, Leake hated being removed from games prematurely. On one occasion last season, he handed the ball to catcher Mike Zunino instead of Servais, who came to remove him — something that’s a considered an insult.

There was also some frustration after a start on May 26 in Oakland. With Servais having already been ejected, Leake was irritated when bench coach Manny Acta came to the mound to remove him from the game. He gave Acta a shoulder bump as he left the mound, which angered Acta, Servais and the Mariners front office. Leake later made comments about the direction of the team and stepback plan following the game and the following Monday in Seattle. Shortly after talking with the Times, the Mariners brought Leake into a meeting with Servais, Acta and general manager Jerry Dipoto. It got a little contentious.

If there was any lingering hesitation about trading Leake, it was gone with that meeting.
I do and don't blame ownership. I wish they had not nixed the trade back in May. That is 10 million that could later be re-invested. Leake, probably helped tank his value as much with poor performance and probably more so with the insulant middle school bully act. Fk that POS and if he is in the NL I say plunk him with the dirt bath once per million his act cost the team. Fuck you Leake.
