Re: HOF thread
Interesting, anecdotal like that internet poll. My point was as mariners fans that endured the endless ichiro mania I think we could tend to view it provincially, selfconscious with it's silliness. We might not grasp how really popular ichiro could be around the rest of baseball. In that sense if Mariano Rivera is a unanimous inductee then ichiro could be too.
Sort of the opposite of Edgar. On one hand, Edgar was underappreciated around the country, on the other, we are self conscious of ichiro being a hype job

Re: HOF thread
You can't say if a guy deserves to be unanimous or not you can only say if he deserves to be elected or not. You can't project your opinion onto others or vote for them in their place. That is what would be required to make him unanimous based on your own opinion.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Dec 08, 2024 4:52 pmInteresting, anecdotal like that internet poll. If you think someone should be a first ballot HOFer but shouldn't be unanimous are you saying that some voters should not vote for him???? If that doesn't make sense which it obviously doesn't then the opposite is also nonsensical based on basic logic.

Re: HOF thread
It is very weird that Mariano is the first and only Unanimous inductee and it will be weird if Ichiro is the second but I honestly don't care.

Yeah, it's a curiosity. Think it just speaks to Mariano being popular with the reporters that covered him

Dick Allen, Dave Parker Elected To Baseball Hall Of Fame

I still can't believe they rejected Lou twice. Now that pisses me off.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Dec 09, 2024 2:43 amDick Allen, Dave Parker Elected To Baseball Hall Of Fame

Re: HOF thread
Ichiro still unanimous and now Felix has over 30%! He could actually make it in about 8-9 years like Edgar did.

Re: HOF thread
Seems nobody GAF this year but Ichiro is still unanimous. CC is a lock. Same with Wagner. Beltran has a shot but will likely need to wait until next year. Felix at 24%. Better than I thought but a long way to go.

Re: HOF thread
The whole HOF voting thing is not based on how talented a particular player may be. Since voters can only vote for ten players each year, the odds are that at least one voter will say "Player A is a lock to get in, so I'm using one of my votes on borderline player B instead" It all comes down to who is on the ballot each year. If its a year with few worthy candidates and few borderline candidates in their last year of eligibility, the odds of a player being elected unanimously goes up.
Re: HOF thread
Felix has a case 1 CY, 2 runners up, the 19 start streak of ultra-quality starts. It is too bad for his counting stats that his velocity started a steady downward projectile from the time he entered the league. Bu6t he was able to come up with new nintendo-pitches one year it would the the change, the next year he would have fantastic splits on the curve. I thought he was a longshot to make it but the early numbers are something to buoy my hopes for him.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2025 5:18 pmSeems nobody GAF this year but Ichiro is still unanimous.
