Brought up for cups of coffee in 1977, this 20 y.o., LH hitting 2Bman and 19 y.o., RH batting SS got their first call-ups to the major leagues.
In 1978, the duo were permanent starters together through 1993 and both were still playing together in 1995, same team.
Alan Trammell, SS, and Lou Whitaker, 2B, played their entire careers with the Detroit Tigers and retired as Tigers.
Lou was ROY in 1978, Alan was 4th.
Over their careers they both were All-Stars, Gold Glove winners and had Silver Slugger trophies.
Together, they were a big part of Detroit as they won the 1984 World Series over the San Diego Padres led by Tony Gwynn and Steve Garvey.
From mid-1979 through the end of 1995, their manager was Sparky Anderson. Prior to that Sparky managed the Big Red Team in Cincinnati.
Colt Emerson-19, Cole Young-21, Felnin Celesten-19, Michael Arroyo-20, Tai Peete-19. Could it happen? If so, which duo?
What a journey it would be for a couple of them grabbed ahold of our infield and kicked ass together for many years together.
What a ride we'd all have if a couple of these youngsters did the same for the Mariners as Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammell did for the Tigers.
