They'd be foolish if they're not at least listening. I think this is what Julio is, and I doubt he turns into anything more. He already believes he's a superstar, (why I don't know), and because of that, I don't think he sees a problem. He'll hit the occasional HR (and barely even jog around the bases which is ridiculous in its own right. If I was an opposing pitcher, I would absolutely bean him with a fastball in the middle of the back next time up for that shit. He doesn't respect the game at all) and think everything is right with the world. His baseball bat has more brains than he does. He's just painful to watch. I have zero confidence when he's at the plate.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Apr 29, 2025 4:07 amI think the perception could change, maybe is changing. He's got the big boy salary and yeah, face of the franchise and all that. But some of that starts to look very fake and forced if the player doesn't live up to the hype. Right now, here, among us more serious type fans, the cynicism is starting to set in, and I don't think it's hard to imagine that same feeling starting to set in with the front office. I'm picturing a lot of eye rolls when they talk about the franchise superstar, wondering if this is it? Is this all we're getting?
I know he's being coached, but I don't think he listens to anyone because he has absolutely no plan whatsoever when he steps to the plate. You can see it in his approach and the way he consistently swings at pitches off the plate whether it be inside, outside, high or low. He doesn't look for certain pitches or pitches in a zone. He just swings at everything, and completely out of control. He may as well just close his eyes. He'd have the same chance of hitting the ball. He's just not very bright.
Another thing that drives me nuts is his refusal to shorten his swing with two strikes. He's still swinging out of his ass, even in situations when all he needs to do is put the ball in play to drive in a run.
He's my least favorite player on the team outside of Solano, and I hate to say it, but I think I'm even developing a hatred for him. The frustrating thing for me is that I think the natural ability is there if he was willing to listen and put the work in. I just don't think he's intelligent enough to put it all together. Either that, or he just doesn't care, or is too lazy. He's always going to do his own thing because too many people have been telling him how great he is and its gone to his head.
"J-Rod Show" my ass! Quite possibly the most overrated player in baseball. Even late in games with first base open and the game on the line, instead of intentionally walking him, opposing teams are choosing to pitch to him. That's very telling in itself.
Another thing. I would love nothing more than to slap that shit-eating grin off his face every time he strikes out, which unfortunately is far too often.
The Mariners FO want so bad for the fans to believe he's this superstar, but that is such BS. He's a fucking joke. He'll have one or two good months which will make his stats at the end of the year look somewhat decent, but for the other 4 or 5 months, he's abysmal just like he is right now. Best thing they can do is to move him down in the order, to at least 6th or 7th, and maybe, just maybe that would be a wake-up call for him and he can get his head out of his ass. Or better yet, send him down to Tacoma and teach him a little humility, because that's one thing he clearly lacks. He needs to get his head right again, if that's even possible.
I would be thrilled if they could find a team dumb enough to take that idiot off our hands and take on the entire contract. Highly doubtful though. The league knows who and what he is now. Doubt anyone would touch him with that contract unless the M's agreed to pick up a portion of the salary, and that's not going to happen. What a sick joke he and this FO is.
Prove me wrong and I'll happily be the first person to come here and admit I was wrong about him.
