I stopped in Okinawa on a WestPac deployment...for a few hours, and then off we went. :D
What unit were you with?
I know you weren't asking me but I was with 7th Comm Bn for about a month and then III MEF HQ for about 2 1/2 years from 2002-2005
I was with the 409th Army Corp Engineers Bridge Crewman. Bailey Bridge. Army reserve.

I was with 9th Marines from 1990-1991. 7th Comm was just up the street from us at Camp Hanson. After Okinawa I went to El Toro with MWCS-38 and stayed there until I separated in 1993.

I was pretty glad to get out at the time, but I've felt the last few years (with 20/20 hindsight) that I would have been better off reenlisting. But you don't understand your own strengths and weaknesses at that age, or at least I didn't.
My brother had to go to Kuwait during that time.

First time I puked my guts out drinking to much was Old English 800. I think switched to Mickey's big mouth and was good to go. lol
Worst I've ever been was on Southern Comfort. I was a Freshman in college, so 18 or 19. Still to this day, at 52 years old? If I even smell Southern Comfort I get queezy!
Ever take a shot of Bacardi 151? Didn't get sick but thought I was going to internally combust.
Used to keep, two bottles in each door of my 59 GMC truck, got ya drunk and sick a few times

A drunk story? Its like after hours and my friend Danny invites us to 13 coins to keep things going. Nobody has any money left but Danny has a credit card. He was probably the only one with a job, having a credit card was kinda impressive back then. So we get there and order where upon Danny passes out fairly soon. I remember him litterly with his face in his soup. I saved him from drowning. So what do we do. After discussing it with the waiter and I'm not exactly sober we drag him to the front desk with one of us under each arm. They run the tab and I hold a pen in his unconscious hand and write out his name on the bill. They took it ànd we dragged him out the door. The 13 coins was funny with it's combination of sophistication and being hardcore, I guess from being open 24 hours a day. Those were the days. I have lots of Danny drinking stories, he's no longer with us. He died from cancer basically because he got pissed at his doctor. The guy was hardcore litterly to the end

I did that my first weekend in Okinawa. Went out and got plastered and woke up with a pile of puke on my pillow. I decided after that not to drink while I was there, which ended up being a year and a half.
