There would have been a benefit to cutting him in the offseason and finding a better second catcher along with actually spending some money. Unfortunately they thought he would "bounce back" so they screwed themselves. As for Ford, I'm not for calling him up. We're stuck with Garver for now and he sucks.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 8:44 pmIts not C, his salary is a sunk cost, cutting him doesn't mitigate it. You still haven't explained to me how the team benefits from cutting him. You can hate on him endlessly, that's fine but the post I responded to was about actually cutting him. Replacing him with Ford doesn't make sense. I don't care how on fire he is, you don't want him playing occasionally as a backup catcher. That leaves having to invest more money in another backup catcher to replace Garver who is in fact a reasonable backup catcher to begin with. I'm not interested in hearing about what a shitty overpaid player Garver is, I already know that. Explain the actual benefit incurred by cutting him. I don't see itDavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed May 14, 2025 8:26 pmHe has an OPS of .629. He has a WAR of 0.0. He's being paid 12 million dollars per season to put up an .800 OPS and what would over a full season be a 3-4 WAR and he's not even coming remotely close to doing so.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun May 11, 2025 9:17 amOnly singles, okay, lots of walks, thats a good thing, that's what you want to see if a bat is coming around. You know OBP is considered more valuable than slugging. So let's say you have a player that possibly is hitting singles, getting on base at a good rate, and fills the need for a backup catcher, that player is providing value. I am just curious the reason for cutting him, what's gained exactly?
"Fills the need for a backup catcher". Like SOB likes to say, the argument is between A and B, and you're arguing C. This is why you've badly lost every argument you've ever had here with me.

Okay, I don't want to argue it but I don't see the point of trying to find a better backup catcher. You could say the fans would enjoy cutting him. That's a possible argument but what would happen is he'd get picked up by another team in need of a backup catcher and you're stuck with paying him to play for them now. The classic nightmare being him actually beating you in a game and you paying him to do it. Remember Seby Zavala,, that's who Garver replaced. Seby is still kicking around, he's in the red Sox organization now. Garver is a serviceable player, just way overpaid
Re: 5/5 GT Miller vs Severino
I wouldn't have any problem with Garver if they'd stop acting like he's a DH.
Just let him be backup catcher.
Unfortunately they dont have any DH's that dont suck because they added more trashbags to the roster instead of taking out the other trashbags.

19 games at dh, more than I realized. Was that more at the start of the season?
