ESPN article on Coors field, thought this was funny. Its like the pitchers version of JK trying to pimp a home run.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/448 ... ns-scoring. "I remember throwing a fastball away," Estevez recently recalled to ESPN. "He could crush pitches close to him. 'Stay safe. Go away. He's going to single to right field, worst-case scenario.' I'm new. The new guy was showing up."
When Posey connected on a 96 mph fastball on the outer half of the plate with a 2-0 count, it momentarily appeared to Estevez that following the advice had paid off.
"I go [points in the air like pitchers do for popups]. It was one of those. The ball goes out. I didn't even look anywhere else. I just kept my face down," Estevez said. "Oh my god. That was so bad. After that, never again -- unless I knew the ball was right on top of me. Man, that was bad. I felt so bad. The older guys, of course, made so much fun of me with that. Like, bro, you don't know where you're pitching."

Getting your brain around how really bad the Rockies are...
And the thing is the Rockies fill their stadium no matter what their record is, it's an entertainment destination. I think the mariners are similar in that respect. Its what I was getting at about the mariners being up in the corner of the country isolated from the rest of baseball. There's a geographical aspect that's not necessarily about time flying
Schmidt trying to save his jobWhat screams is the 7-36 record -- worst in the MLB Modern Era (1900), tied with the 1895 Louisville Colones for second-worst all-time, a game better than the 1884 Kansas City Cowboys and 1876 Cincinnati Reds
I think the mariners have invested in development, they probably want more credit for that as opposed to roster developmentSchmidt joined the club’s road trip on Wednesday, the day after he watched Michael Toglia, Sean Bouchard and Owen Miller all represented the tying run -- yet they all took third strikes in Tuesday's loss to the Rangers.
“You didn’t hear me screaming?” Schmidt said Wednesday afternoon in his first interview since replacing manager Bud Black with Warren Schaeffer on an interim basis. “My wife did.”
https://www.mlb.com/news/bill-schmidt-d ... to-rangersThe Rockies are perceived as thin and behind the curve structurally. They’re maligned for their small research and development departments. They were behind other clubs in adding a second team in Latin America and opening a performance lab, and were one of the five latest teams to adopt a pitching machine that allows hitters to face specific pitchers virtually.

More to it than velocity, a pitch without movement, particularly over the heart of the plate would easily be hit no matter how hard it was thrown. Pitchers are throwing harder but there's still a lot of movement involved, twisting at the elbow and shoulder, it's the torque that is most damaging And location is important too, it can't be over the heart of the plate

Check out this throw, clocked supposedly at over 105 mph, the ball is moving faster than the guy hit it

Was that in response to my post in the Bryce Miller thread?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 15, 2025 4:11 pmMore to it than velocity, a pitch without movement, particularly over the heart of the plate would easily be hit no matter how hard it was thrown. Yeah, how did that happen, sitting in the dark on my phone replaying that throw. The guy is Congolese japanese, looks like Roberto Clemente out there, that was an insane throw
