This is such a cliche fan rant. "They shoulda spent more money and signed the top FA bat available and made him the highest paid player on the team!"
It is on the players now. Jerry delivered.

5-60, that is serious. Funny how in baseball a guy can be having a great season and then all of a sudden for a few weeks he goes pffft.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:46 pmIf he’s at .842 he’s in a pretty serious slump. Ignore his WAR because his defense at first base drags it down. Personally, I don't think that's worth 27 million per season, but at least he's worth almost that and two years isn't long-term. We really should have expressed more interest in him.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:17 pm
Pete Alonso signed 2 years for $54 million. That would make him the highest paid player on the Mariners.

2 out of the last 10 champions were sitting around .500 at the break. And I'm not even looking at the data. What is the threshold? How often does the team with the best record win it all? Wild card teams go to the world series. Teams that get hot down the stretch go to the world series. Teams with great top of rotation arms go to the world series.Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:58 pmMakes sense, since winning 54% every year and making one playoff appearance in a quarter century is good enough for you.
What matters is the team you put on the diamond in August, September, and October. What matters in the post season is your top 3 starting pitchers.
The Mariners have a history of futility. What on earth does that have to do with the idea that your roster and team performance down the stretch is what determines if you win a championship?
"The Atlanta Braves were eliminated by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2023 National League Division Series (NLDS), marking the second consecutive year that the Phillies have upset the Braves in the playoffs.
The Phillies won the best-of-five series 3-1, with Nick Castellanos leading the way by hitting two home runs in Game 4, securing the victory for Philadelphia.
This was the second straight year that the Phillies defeated the Braves in the NLDS, despite the Braves finishing 14 games ahead of them in the regular season."

I just think it's super cliche to bitch about owners not spending more money. Like find a new rant bro.

Braves finish 14 games ahead of Phillies and then lose to them in the playoffs. Then, the exact same thing happens the following year.
If you have a couple of elite starting pitchers, then you can make a deep run. You don't have to run away from the pack to win the world series. You just have to be able to win best of 3, best of 5, best of 7.
The title of this thread is accurate. Jerry delivered. Big time. Probably one of the most exciting times to be a Mariner fan in the history of the franchise. All of the pieces are there.

Really? You know, there's a reason why you have the reputation for being the dumbest poster here.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:56 pm2 out of 10 is proving my point.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:51 pmOften? Over the last ten seasons not including 2020 the only teams that were anywhere near .500 at the deadline were the Braves in 2021 (52-54) and the Nationals in 2019 (57-51). And I'll bet that if you go back further that figure will drop to under 20%. Do you even THINK before you post this stuff?DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:22 pm
Championships often come from teams sitting around .500 at the deadline. What matters is the stretch run.
Tell you what, though. I'll humor you and keep going back...and back...and back...aaaaaand the next instance of someone being close to .500 at the trading deadline was the...wait for it...the 1980 Phillies at 52-46.There aren't any more instances of this happening since divisional play started in 1969 and before then it was a virtual impossibility. Now, let's just go back to 1995 when the wild-card started and this would now be...2-28.
So does 2 out of 28 still prove your point? Bear in mind that even though the 2 have been fairly recent, it's still fluky when it occurs.

Mariner fans, where 20% is satisfactory. You just can't make this shit up. I wonder if when NFL play callers are looking for a go to play, they call the one that works two out of ten times? I bet that when looking for an out pitch, Cal calls the one that the Pitcher executes two times out of ten. I bet you if Steph Curry could only hit two out of every ten shots, he'd be a better basketball player. I could go on forever, but it's just too stupid to spend anymore time on.
They don't care about you, that is WHY they won't pay for Alonso, or anyone like him. Why? Because they are going to make money anyway. I have no clue why you believe them NOT spending money somehow shows that they care about you? It's the bottom line, and there is a lot of that in sports. But burying your head in the sand and pretending it isn't so is dumb as shit.
Jesus Christ dude.

Why? Again, you do nothing to add to any discussion besides saying dumb shit like 2 out of 10 proves your point and ranting about cheap ownership is dumb. Why? Why do you believe that in a sport like baseball, with no salary cap, that any ownership can justify making money hand over fist and then crying poor? Why do you give a shit how much money they pay a free agent? Shit, they tried to throw a truck load at JK. They did throw a truck load at some first baseman that had never played at the MLB level and really showed no signs of being anything but a good defender. They have spent MILLIONS on scrap parts, but expecting them to spend it on a Stud is asking too much? Again, Why?DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 6:14 pmIf they don't care about me, then why should they spend money on Pete Alonso?Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:58 pm

Two out of the last ten times a team with a mediocre record at the deadline ultimately won the championship. Do you really not know how to interpret that?
