Its going to be tough. I don't see anyway that both the Yankees and Bluejays go 1-3 to close out the year. at least one of them is going to go 2-2 Which means The M's would have to win out.D-train wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 6:33 pmIf the goal is to make the ALCS then you want the 2 seed. My goal is the latter and we are only 1 game back of the 1 seed, two given the tie breakers.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 3:59 pmTo me the only reason I'd want the one seed is to have Home field advantage in the ALCS. As far as the ALDS goes I'd much rather be playing Cleveland Houston or Detroit rather than New York Toronto or Boston. Less travel and less hostile environments.

Yeah agree maybe a 10% chance but no reason not to go balls out and go for it given 5 days off after Sunday.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 25, 2025 6:49 pmIts going to be tough. Homefield for the ALCS is based on original seeding so if the number one gets knocked off in the DS the M's would still be able to have home field advantage.

After the games on September 25th...
Magic number = any combination of Mariner Wins and Team X losses that will result in The M's finishing above team X in the standings.
3 games left to play.
Division Clinched!
1st round bye clinched!!
Teams that cannot finish ahead of the M's: Boston, Cleveland, Detroit, Houston, Texas, Kansas City, Tampa Bay, Sacramento, Baltimore, Anaheim, Minnesota, Chicago
For the one seed
Toronto = 5
New York = 5

I'd rather they keep the 2nd seed
I'd rather go against Detroit or Cleveland than any of the AL East teams

Re: Magic Number Thread.
Do we have a broadcast schedule yet for the postseason? I'm wondering what I need to get access to.

So its
> New York at home to Baltimore
> Toronto at home to Tampa Bay
Cheers again Capt.
As well as Magic Number of 5 for both teams - are we also at "Elimination number" of 2 in the chase for #1 seed?
So if New York or Toronto win 2 of their last three, that's it? And we can chip in with a loss to LA and bring that elimination number down ourselves?
The #2 looks a long way off if my maths is right. We're going to need NY & TOR to lose twice each and sweep the Dodgers OR beat Dodgers twice and hope they are both swept. Not going to happen.

There is still a path for Boston to drop to the 6th seed. Detroit has the tiebreaker over Boston so if they win that series they will finish ahead of them in the Wildcard. Cleveland would need to win at least 2 of 3 as well to remain in first place. That would result in Cleveland as the 3 seed, Detroit as the 5 seed and Boston as the 6 which means that M's would face the winner of Boston Vs Cleveland.

After 23 years what a luxury to be talking about the seeding.Captain 97 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 26, 2025 3:44 pmThere is still a path for Boston to drop to the 6th seed.
