Re: Spring Training Thread
This is the first year you and I haven’t met up in Peoria in many years. Gonna miss it I just hope the WBC doesn’t take one of our players out with injuries.
Re: Spring Training Thread
Divish and Jude on the chances of Colt making the roster. btw why did Jerry open his yapper again about him possibly making the roster when there is no place he can play if they are sent on Cole Young getting another chance at 2B?? btw how is Colt more advanced than Julio at this point his minor league numbers aren't even in the same stratosphere as Julio's.

Some of Colt's numbers are better aren't they? Polished isn't slash line.D-train wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 5:14 pmDivish and Jude on the chances of Colt making the roster. btw why did Jerry open his yapper again about him possibly making the roster when there is no place he can play if they are sent on Cole Young getting another chance at 2B?? btw how is Colt more advanced than Julio at this point his minor league numbers aren't even in the same stratosphere as Julio's.

Polished Approach: Scouts highlight his ability to manage the strike zone, rarely chasing pitches, and spraying line drives to all fields.
Advanced Contact: In a 214-pitch sample, he missed at just a 16% rate and chased out of the zone at a 15% rate.

But I think what some of us would like to see is sort of a consolidation of those skills over a sustained period of time vs. higher level pitching along with real productive output in measurable stats like BA, SLG, OBP, OPS, etc.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:05 pmSome of Colt's numbers are better aren't they? What I worry about is this tendency with the Mariners to fall in love with these guys and see only what they want to see.

Sure, though I'm not sure AAA pitching is considered higher level pitching. The best pitching prospects are at AA, they aren't spending a lot of time at AAA are they?GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:23 pmBut I think what some of us would like to see is sort of a consolidation of those skills over a sustained period of time vs. higher level pitching along with real productive output in measurable stats like BA, SLG, OBP, OPS, etc.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:05 pmSome of Colt's numbers are better aren't they? If both Emerson and young make the roster they can play Donovan in the outfield more
Re: Spring Training Thread
The overall level of pitching is higher at AAA. Pitching staffs at that level are loaded with AAAA bubble guys with more complete repertoires with much more refined secondaries, and they're throwing to catchers with years of pro experience.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:32 pmSure, though I'm not sure AAA pitching is considered higher level pitching. Julio hit 362 with an Ops over 1,000 in Arkansas and Emerson hit 282 with an Ops of 790 but sure some Scouts pretend they are super smart and say that he's more advanced for some b******* ambiguous intangible reason

Precisely how I feel about it. Jerry completely limited his options by opening his mouth unnecessarilyGL_Storm wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:23 pmBut I think what some of us would like to see is sort of a consolidation of those skills over a sustained period of time vs. higher level pitching along with real productive output in measurable stats like BA, SLG, OBP, OPS, etc.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sat Feb 14, 2026 7:05 pmSome of Colt's numbers are better aren't they?
