Re: OT World Cup USA versus Australia
The game of soccer would still function technically without the offside rule, but it would fundamentally ruin the sport's tactical balance, transforming it into a predictable game of long punts. Defenders would be forced to permanently drop back, eliminating midfield play and defensive pressing.Abolishing the rule would trigger several drastic changes:Goal-Hanging: Attackers would simply stand near the opponent's goal, waiting for long balls. The skill of well-timed attacking runs and defensive offside traps would vanish.Destruction of the Midfield: With attackers camping by the net, defenders would have to drop deep to protect the goalkeeper. This would compress the entire field into a tight, congested area.Tactical Predictability: Midfielders would lose their strategic importance, and the game would devolve into "kick and rush" tactics, heavily favoring tall, physical players over skilled dribblers. Some eksperimental matches, and variations like Arena Soccer and Futsal, play without offsides, but these rely on small pitches or rebound walls that fundamentally alter the game's flow. In a traditional 11-a-side match, removing the rule would eliminate the intricate passing combinations that make the sport dynamic

Sounds basically like Mike was explaining

Not fake at all. They dominated Australia from the very beginning. Had nothing to do with the referees whatsoever.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Sat Jun 20, 2026 4:08 pmSounds like it was a fake win for USA...

They lost 2-0, in soccer terms that's a blowout. They are blaming the ref?

It's all over the internet. You think I'm making this up?
And 2-0 with one goal being an own-goal and the other a controversial goalie interference isn't a blowout or total domination.

I know it's all over the internet, what difference does it make how the goals were scored? The ref was responsible for engineering both of them as well as keeping the Aussies scoreless, okay

And no-one considers 2-0 a blowout in soccer lol. Stop making stuff up just to disagree. The (vast) majority view seems to be that the officiating was biased in a close game in favor of the U.S..
