Here is a weird Idea for a RH bat that has not been mentioned in any trade talks that I have ever seen, but is a player who hits decently in T-Mobile and great everywhere else. He has 135 OPS+ against LH starters this year, has put 2.3 WAR in 2, and I don't think he'd cost a ton....his name? Viva La Frenchy....Ty France
Unless they were able to offload Naylor, France just adds to the team's current lack of athleticism.

They need an outfielder... don't really need a DH/1B type.
No, they need the bat. Heck, Canzone can play the OF and let Ty DH, and then Ty can play 1b to sit Naylor, or he has been playing 3b he can play there as well.

Do you think the Mariners should get more, or are you saying not to trade Kirby under any circumstances?

Let me agree with SOB's assessment of Jim Bowden..he is a moron. That said, I believe SOB was calling him dumb because there is no way that it is even in the realm of possibility that Schmitt should be the return for Kirby.

If Kirby is to be traded, that should be done in the winter, during the Winter Meetings, in a 1-1 type of swap.

I'd trade Kirby but only under the right circumstances. You still have 2 years of control... so what's the rush?

Trade for Schmitt if you want to, fine (87 wRC+ since 6/1 btw)... but do it with mid-tier prospects. He's not part of any sort of package that lands the Giants Kirby.

Here's your list of right handed hitters.

The only player even remotely available that sits around the same trade value is Byron Buxton. To me, that's the only trade at this stage (in '26 heading to the trade deadline) that I'd move Kirby for... and that likely doesn't line up b/c if they're moving Buxton they don't have much need for Kirby.

So since there's not much out there to trade for Kirby at this juncture... keep him and find other ways to improve until trading him becomes necessary.

An interesting trade partner for Castillo could be the Padres.

They'll head into 2027 with just 2 starting pitchers under contract (possibly just one if Michael King opts out) and no pitching prospects in their top 20 who are at the AAA level.

His 4.93 ERA would be third best on their current roster. His 4.16 FIP would be the second lowest on their current roster. Castillo could also help a rotation that is desperate for any sort of performance and stability on the back end.

If the M's were to eat like $10M cash, they could possibly grab one of the Padres rental relievers back.

Jason Adam is a free agent in '27 and went on the IL with a shoulder strain in early July. He's been an elite reliever the last number of years and the M's could take a medical flyer on him... hoping he returns to help the M's down the stretch.
