Jerry Sold off the closer in 2021 while the team was 9 games over .500 and a game out of playoff position.
If he buys at the deadline with this crap team, it would be a mistake. They need to sell.

Randy and at least one starting pitcher had better be gone when we start play next week. I'd look to trade Donovan too if anyone wants to take on damaged goods. I'd also consider selling Munoz if the return is good enough. DFA JP call up Arroyo and start planning for next season.

I don't understand why you want to tank the season. Ok, so they are not playing as well as they can, so you are selling at their lowest trade value and get the least in return? That is cutting your nose off to spite your face. Look, are there things that I would have done differently than Jerry the Dip did? Yes, roster construction has never been his forte, and it has killed the M's this year. He should have had at least 3 valid bullpen arms in Tacoma and at least 2 more MLB bullpen guys...not talking high leverage, but someone to come in and work innings to save the high leverage guys. A deal should have been done before the All-Star Game to get a RH bat. And I would have let Dan go and gotten Buck Showalter to come in and teach these guys how to play on an every day basis....it has been a lesson they have needed to learn for a long time.

Pereda hit in a Mariner uniform and he's batting .324 for Tacoma this season, in a large sample size. DiPoto's still trying to squeeze something out of the 25+ million he wasted on a guy who was 0-32 lifetime at T-Mobile. Worst free-agent signing in franchise history when you consider that even at the time it made no sense.

I'm with you on this. We're only a few games out and if the team can be improved enough to make up those few games which they can if only because the division sucks, we can make the playoffs and if the team gets hot, big things can happen. The D-Bags won the pennant in 2003 after going 84-78. We've made the ALCS four times, and only in 2001 did we expect to at this time of year. You want to win a championship, you have to seize it when you have the chance. Amazon ain't gonna drop it onto your doorstep.

The reason he was able to do that then, even though that was the moment I hated that scumbag forever....was job security. He is never losing his job, so he can sell, buy, do whatever. Well, whatever, as long as it saves or earns the organization money.

I think they should sell just because I think this is the least likable Mariner team I can remember in a long fucking time. This group doesn't work, I dont' care why, they just don't. Start over. The problem is? Do we want Jerry to be the guy in charge of them starting over?

The most confusing team in baseball resides in the Pacific Northwest. The Seattle Mariners should be good -- very good, even. They've got talent on offense. They've got a loaded rotation that runs six-deep. They've got a cadre of good relief arms. And with all of that, they remain under .500. Because they're still just 2½ games back of the Rangers for first in the AL West, the Mariners can't, in good conscience, punt on this season. At the same time, they are trying to answer a question with no good answer: How much do you invest in a team that hasn't proved itself worthy of investment?

The Mariners, with their loaded farm system, could get Miller to join Andres Munoz, Gabe Speier, Jose Ferrer, Eduard Bazardo and, eventually, Matt Brash. It would be arguably the best bullpen in baseball. They could get any right-handed bat they want, though the infield will be crowded upon Brendan Donovan's long-awaited return, and the inventory of outfielders is both thin and not all that impactful.

Seattle is open to moving starters Emerson Hancock or Luis Castillo, and maybe there's a big leaguer-for-big leaguer match that makes sense. The Mariners are plenty capable of figuring things out and going on a tear to end the season. What they do between now and Monday will say plenty about how the Mariners front office regards this team. They were ready to go all-in. Are they still?
