Who were the top bullpen arms picked up at the deadline? What was he supposed to do differently? The Castillo salary dump was smart. Dominguez had 47ks in 38 innings this year with CWS.

This is such a stereotypical sports fan "fire the GM" narrative. As if you can just easily send Jerry packing, bring in a new guy, and suddenly you come out way ahead on every trade, every draft pick becomes an all star, nobody gets injured, the division titles and WS rings start piling up....all cuz you hired the right GM!

That's your "20 games over .500"

There are teams that have spent far more and accomplished far less.

No low payroll team is 20 games over .500 year in and year out.

For me the "situation" is the team played exceptional in 2025. Mediocre in 2026.

For me the "situation" regarding the GM is that Jerry is perfectly competent. I don't look at it like Jerry is some bumbling idiot and all the Mariners have to do is go get someone with half a brain and they will be winning division title after division title.

Think of it this way. If all 30 teams had mastermind GMs, how would it play out?

He's been good at some aspects. He just refuses to go for it by trading top prospects or going after pricy FAs to fill the many holes in the lineup. Without the monster season from Cal last year they might not even make the playoffs and then the conversation is entirely different.
