Recap of the past 10 months leading to missing the playoffs
Re: Recap of the past 10 months leading to missing the playoffs
Well rated as usual brother. I would add our horrible lack of plate discipline which was on display at its finest last night
Re: Recap of the past 10 months leading to missing the playoffs
I think Kade Anderson is probably fine. This is a good level for him to continue his development. However, my one worry is that the Mariners pitching coaches will screw him up. I don't trust these guys at all anymore.

Also bad defense and bone headed plays. The list is so damn long....

What happened to Daniel Vogelbach? Would be interested to know his thoughts on this.

Jim Moore bet Puck $250 that Jerry would be fired this off season. Sadly I think he will be $250 poorer....

Nice breakdown, you pretty much nailed it.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Sep 04, 2026 5:21 pmRecap of the past 10 months leading to the M's missing the playoffs
I think this is a complete indictment of the Jerry regime resulting in missing the playoffs for the 9th time in 11 seasons despite the expanded playoffs and the worst AL West and AL as a whole in history this season....fewest playoff appearance in this time frame of any Baseball exec at as long as Jerry has been.
The 2025-26 Off season
Trade Jurrangelo, Tai Peete and Ben Williamson for Donovan.
Donovan: Has been good while healthy but is made of glass and only played 39 games putting up 1.0 fWAR
Jurrangelo: ERA of 5.38 and 1.44 WHIP in AA/AAA
Williamson: 0.4 fWAR in 84 games 81 wRC+
Tai Peete: At time of the trade Peete almost looked like a throw in given his struggles in the M's system but the Cardinals seem to know how to develop hitters. He has a .296 BA and a .922 OPS in A+/AA
This trade could turn very ugly if Donovan can't stay healthy in 2027 and Peete continues to rake potentially making his MLB debut in about a year
Current grade: C-
Signing Refsnyder to a $6.25M 1 year deal
This signing was completely unnecessary given that Canzone hit LH pitching just fine in 2025 as he is currently.
Horrific .465 OPS and -1.0 fWAR
Grade: F-
Trade Harry Ford for Jose Ferrer in the famed Ford vs. Ferrari trade
Ferrer has been pretty much what he always was with a low K rate and me ERA 7 Ks per 9 3.72 ERA and 0.1 fWAR
Ford had a slow start in the Nats minors but was promoted in mid summer and has put up 0.4 WAR and .697 OPS in just 26 games.
Another trade that could get UGLY in the coming years.
Current Grade: D+
Sign Josh Naylor to a 5 year $92.5M
Blinded by the hype of being a huge fan fave during his hot 2 months in Seattle the M's brass decided to make him the biggest position players signing of the Jerry era. Prior to becoming a Mariner he had put up only ~8 fWAR in his entire career..
In 2026 he was even more underwhelming than in previous season with only 1.0 fWAR and an anemic .685 OPS
Current Grade: C-
Trade Deadline
Trade Brock Moore, Alex Hoppe and Harrison Kreiling for Taylor Ward
Hailed as an on base "Machine" due to somehow leading the league in walks, pitchers finally clued in and started throwing him strikes.
The result? Ward has somehow been and even bigger bust than Refsnyder hitting .111 with a .349 OPS
Meanwhile Hoppe as been great with the O's 0.00 ERA 1.03 WHIP in 9.2 IPs while we could have used help in the pen.
Grade: F-
Trade Luis Castillo for Boston Smith, Seranthony and Nolan Jones
Partially a salary dump other than Boston Smith I still can't believe the White Sox agreed to this trade.
Luis has been even worse for them than he was for us. 7.52 ERA and 1.70 WHIP
Boston Smith has cooled off a bit but still with a great line of .261/1.023
Nolan Jones was just a throw in and has sucked for Tacoma
Seranthony has put up a 5.40 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He has been pitching better after a horrible start.
Current Grade: A-
Prospects recently making their debuts:
Colt Emerson was inexplicably given almost $100M before ever playing a MLB game. After a hot start he was close to a disaster with a .581 OPS with -0.1 fWAR including negative Defensive Metrics
Cole Young has been much better than last season but still a sub .700 OPS and a mid 1.8 fWAR
Laz had a great first game and not so good second game
Kade Anderson after one of the greatest seasons in minor league history has been a disappointment with 3 very mid starts.
I have been saying the farm has been overrated for several years and it appears to be the case.
Grade: C-
The Core:
The aforementioned Naylor, Cal and Julio have all come far from meeting expectations. Your best hitter, Randy is as good as gone to FA...
The rotation has been mid and or injured.
The pen has been injured or sub par with Brash, Speier and Vargas missing significant time and Munoz blowing far too many saves. Bazardo with a rough season as well.
Grade: D+
The team is 9 games under .500 with almost no chance at the playoffs. Time for a complete house cleaning from Jerry on down to the Clubhouse attendant. I honestly can't believe anyone would defend Jerry at this point but his groupies continue to be loud and proud. lol

Re: Recap of the past 10 months leading to missing the playoffs
The only thing I would add is the reasoning behind not sending them to AAA. Have you seen how the PCL inflates pitching stats when hitting in those bandbox stadiums, including Tacoma? They don't want to expose young pitchers to that too early...Arkansas is more like T-mobile.
