IMO Kade needs to get in the gym and get his fastball velo up.

He's never thrown with a lot of velocity and he never will. I've pointed this out since he was drafted. He's never been projected as a top of the rotation starter. That he went that high in the draft was really about it being a mediocre draft. He has a tremendous minor league season which is the minor leagues. He's going to be a good ML pitcher. I think along the line of guys they currently have. But there's a reason some project Sloane as having the higher ceiling

The consistency is what strikes me. I was complaining about crappy baseball at the beginning of season. Lack of focus, concentration, whatever you want to call it. I was complaining that it probably cost them a couple games but they have kept it up the entire season. They had a six game win streak in May, that's when they seemed to put it behind them. But since then they've had two three game winning streaks, that's it, amazing. That's what makes it so annoying, the anticipation they were about to pull out of it. But there really wasn't a prayer. It really baffles me. If they quit then they must have quit on the entire season.

Terms of dipotos off season moves I think there's context. I don't think Naylor was about being a fan favorite. It was about a guy that showed an ability to hit at t-mobile and was willing to re-sign. When was the last time we've had that? The mariners had a huge hole to fill at first base, dipoto and Stanton were at least willing to get aggressive in filling it. They jumped the market. Not signing him begs the question what would have been the alternative?

That's the thing, so Stanton cans Dipoto. Who does he get as a replacement? You need to keep in mind Stanton doesn't look at this the way this forum does. You would want him to sign a guy that would make right decisions rather than wrong ones. My feeling is it be more getting a guy that was even less aggressive. I believe Stanton is committed to a slow and careful approach, depend more on farm development and less on FAs. Dipoto said the Naylor signing was moving beyond their comfort zone. I doubt Stanton looks for a guy that would want be more aggressive, spend more money. I think the reaction would be to pull back.

His fastball is 93/94, and I think a good comparison for him is Max Fried. I've watched Fried pitch a few times this season and while he doesn't have big strikeout numbers he keeps the ball in the yard and as a result he's got an ERA under three for the fourth time in the last five seasons. He has a very similar pitching style and seems like someone that Kade can emulate.

What's odd is that Kade had gaudy strikeout numbers in college and at AA but in three starts thus far is only averaging 6.6 per nine innings and has given up three dingers in 15 innings. Hopefully he can quickly flip that.
