Mitch Garver retires
Could have sworn he retired right after he signed that first two-year deal with us.
Just amazing that we signed a guy who was 0-32 in his career at T-Mobile, and then to the surprise of no person on Earth whatsoever he totally sucked for two straight seasons in a Mariner uniform, and then the front office went and signed him to another contract so that he could suck for another season. Who else DOES this? Seriously, WHO?

At least Haniger did earn the money that he didn't make before we re-acquired him, in Garver's case we paid him for what he did for the Twins and Rangers. Funny that Vlad Guerrero Jr. finally became the first player to actually say that about his contract where he's being paid for what he's already done and not necessarily for what he's going to do. It's always been a dirty little secret about contracts like that. Not the worst thing in the world if it's for one of your own players as it sends a positive message to the clubhouse, but pretty bad when you're paying a huge salary to a player for his past performance with other teams which you end up not getting, like the Angels and Albert Pujols.

If he had any honor, he would’ve given it all to charity.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 21, 2026 11:55 pmCould have sworn he retired right after he signed that first two-year deal with us.

The dude made $26.25 Million from the M's over 3 years and had 138 hits. That's 190k per hit.

They are pretty expensive
In Major League Baseball (MLB), the mathematical average cost of a regular season hit is approximately $120,000 to $130,000 based on overall league payrolls and hitting metrics

That's not adding up. Offensive Payroll across MLB totlaled roughly 2.7 Billion in 2026. There were 39,845 hits. That's approximately 68K per hit.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Oct 26, 2026 3:46 pmThey are pretty expensiveIn Major League Baseball (MLB), the mathematical average cost of a regular season hit is approximately $120,000 to $130,000 based on overall league payrolls and hitting metrics

If the M's had paid Ichiro $190K per hit he would have made $461 Million in his 10+ years in an M's uniform.
