Fact is managers are fired all the time I don't see the issue

Kubiak was allowed to pursue other opportunities since he was operating under an interim HC. Both were a function of regime change. You think Espada would be a stupid hire, okay. You would prefer Vogelbach to manage the team, okay. Like I keep saying I don't see a problem with Espada
There are some similarities with Kubiak, but many differences, meaning it's not the same. Most importantly, you're comparing an NFL OC with an MLB manager. One is Xs and Os. The other isn't.

I never said it would be a "stupid hire" so thanks for that straw man. I even mentioned he might pile up Ws and it would be a burn on the Astros for letting the Mariners snatch him up. Did you miss that part?

My position is that it doesn't matter that much. Dan Wilson was one game away from the WS, and now he's gone. AJ Hinch is the man, and he finished 76-86. The roster is way more important than the guy filling out the lineup card. The manager never throws a pitch or swings a bat. This ain't running an NFL offense.

For all I know Espada is the best choice... the perfect fit.... I'm only working with two variables here... Astros are done with him, and hiring him creates that storyline...

Maybe the Astros will hire Dan Wilson to really make things interesting.

Pardon me, you called it dumb
I just checked the poll results. Looks like everyone agrees with me on this one. I'm not sure if we're a direct cross-reference of the fan base. But, it just seems like it would be a dumb hire
I'm not here banging the drum for Estrada. But I don’t see anything wrong with him. That includes being let go by the Astros. What manager has never been fired? The Rays traded for home town guy Lou pineilla and fired him three years later, it happens. Again, that was because of changing GMs

Let’s get fucking nuts and lull Bruce Bochy or Joe Maddon out of retirement.

I’m sort of joking but sort of not. For the right sack of money they could be pulled back into the fray, and chances are they would make an instant splash.

Espada wasn't fired, his contract wasn't renewed. The same situation as Kubiak and the Saints, happens all the time when a team replaces a GM or HC. Nobody views it as a black mark
Give me a break. They made a change. Call it what you want. He's not their man. They don't want him. They're going a different direction. Nobody steps down from MLB manager voluntarily. Not renewing a contract is the same as a canning.
I guess Daniel has never met the human Rain Delay. lol

I asked for a list of premier manager candidates, so who do you guys want? I mean getting past Daniel Vogelbach or Bruce Bochy. and Espada would be a crappy choice. Who actually excites you guys?

. Proven Former Managers (Veteran Tier)

Joe Espada: The former Houston Astros skipper (256–229 record) became available following organizational changes. He is heavily linked to current searches, including interviewing with the Seattle Mariners.

David Ross: The former Chicago Cubs manager (262–284) remains highly sought after by teams seeking experienced leadership with a strong player-management background.

Brandon Hyde: Fired by the Baltimore Orioles earlier in the cycle, Hyde offers a wealth of experience in rebuilding young rosters and guiding them to winning records.

Skip Schumaker: The former Manager of the Year left the Miami Marlins and is widely viewed as a highly adaptable, modern clubhouse communicator.

2. High-Profile Legends (Star Power Tier)

Albert Pujols: The future Hall of Famer has been cutting his teeth managing in winter leagues and has become a "splash" candidate linked to high-profile openings like the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners.

Carlos Beltrán: A recurrent name in front-office circles and managerial searches, Beltrán’s vast baseball IQ has him continually listed as an option for teams wanting an impactful veteran presence.

3. Up-and-Coming Bench Coaches (Modern/Data-Driven Tier)

Rodney Linares: The Tampa Bay Rays bench coach is highly respected around the league for blending data-driven optimization with strong international player relationships.

Ryan Flaherty: The Cubs bench coach is heavily circulating in rumor mills, generating strong interest from multiple clubs looking for a fresh, analytically minded voice.

Danny Lehmann: Serving as the Los Angeles Dodgers bench coach, Lehmann is regarded as an elite target heavily endorsed by modern front offices

Truthfully, I don't think field manager has been our problem over the years. Just a scape goat for lack of success. Perhaps, we should look elsewhere...

Funny how that such a funny animal has become so prominent in sports. GOAT, goat and scape goat. I drive by field of mini goats about a half mile from my house almost every day and wonder what they would think about being so important on Sports forums.....

Dates back to early biblical rituals
• The Yom Kippur Ritual: The High Priest chose two goats by lot. One goat was sacrificed as an offering to God, while the second goat was designated for Azazel.

• Transferring Sins: The priest laid his hands on the second goat to symbolically transfer the sins and guilt of the Israelite community onto it.

• Entering the Wilderness: This second goat was then led away into the desert or pushed off a cliff to symbolically carry the community's sins away.

• Coining the Word: The English word was coined in 1530 by Protestant translator William Tyndale while translating the Hebrew Bible. He mistranslated or reinterpreted the Hebrew term Azazel as 'ez ozel ("goat that departs" or an "escape goat"), which was later shortened to "scapegoat

Sacrificing things is beyond. Why would you throw a perfectly good virgin into a Volcano?

so ESPN has their way too early power rankings out for the 2027 season. Have the Mariners 11th. Even with the lousy season i think they are still held in pretty high regard, that's why it would seem a favorable gig to get as a manager. I think too much is being made of dipoto, it wouldn't be concern about interference, it would turn on is what they are willing to pay. Its definitely been a position they have gone cheap on

I don't really see a splashy target to begin with, the field seems pretty tame. But if there was one and they wanted to impress they could do it with a decent offer. Like they did with Cano or Lou in fact. It would be nice if they could come up with a move like that, inject some excitement. Would seem like it be worth it, really not talking that much money. Craig Council is making like $7 mil? I just don't see who it would be.

If a good manager is worth three wins, that is like a $15 mil a season of value.
