And Farhan Zaidi gets canned, go figure
Re: Devers to SF!!
They might not have been willing to move him to an AL team. But what ever!

In a shocking mid-June blockbuster, the Giants have acquired star slugger Rafael Devers from the Red Sox in exchange for right-hander Jordan Hicks, left-hander Kyle Harrison, outfield/first base prospect James Tibbs and right-handed pitching prospect Jose Bello. The teams subsequently announced the trade, and the Red Sox optioned Harrison to Triple-A Worcester. The Giants will absorb the remainder of Devers’s contract
James Tibbs is a legit prospect
Bello is a Dominican lotto ticket with goo stats in rookie ball but he is 20?
The other two?
Kyle Harrison was a top 100 across the board and is now MLB-ready depth
Hicks is a pure salary dump -1 WAR and owed 32 million
We could have matched or bettered that package and sent prospects and had Boston pay 32 million of Dever's contract. The result would have been the final 8 years his contract would have been a 27.75M / year
1. JP* SS 144 OPS+
2. Julio CF 117 OPS+
3, Devers* 3B 152 OPS+
4. Cal**C 185 OPS+
5. Randy LF 121 OPS+
6. Jorge** DH 126 OPS+
7. Dilly 2B 112 OPS+
8. Calzone* OF 113 OPS+
9. Tellez* 1B 99 OPS+
Raley should be back soon.

Re: Devers to SF!!
The Mariners were never trading for Devers.
It's silly to entertain them ever paying for a guy who doesn't play defense and is owed $28M a year until he's 36 + deferred money.
They wouldn't even take on Bregman or Alonso for 2 years guys... c'mon.

It's interesting the giants feeling the pressure to do something, they have an opportunity to get back to a WS and aren't wasting it. And this with the stinking dodgers ahead of them, what are they doing, they're competing. The mariners are in a division that's there for the taking, don't feel the need to do anything. Haven't the Giants tended to be pretty big underdogs in their WS wins? Posey is experienced at it, been there done that.
It's interesting the Devers contract. The money that's getting spent, Guerrero Jr's $500 mil, it's going to be interesting what Alonzo gets. It's going to be a lot more than what he was offered this last season. In a few years Devers money could look a lot more reasonable

Re: Devers to SF!!
From CBS sports which I think is a reputable source but this misses the point of the trade entirely. It's not about what Devers does in 2033, it's about making it to a WS now. You need to establish the value of a WS appearance. This is the opposite of the mariners approach, sustainability
The blip is devers' contact rate
The blip is devers' contact rate
Is that a blip or a slip? And if it's a slip, what will that cause his game to look like in a year? Two? Five? How about in 2033? And, just as importantly, how confident are you in your answers? How many millions of dollars would you be willing to put on the line?
Re: Devers to SF!!
I wasn't really in on Devers but I would be all in for O'Hearn.

I guess that's the difference between having a MVP future Hall of Fame catcher versus a s***** relief pitcher as your head of baseball operationsDonn Beach wrote: ↑Mon Jun 16, 2025 1:19 amJust wow, amazing...screw Boston, this is about the giants, what an impressive win now trade. The Giants have pitching but no offense. Their team ops is like.680, and they have a tough time signing free agents, but they are in that western division race. The dodgers pitching has sucked. The one difference with the mariners is the giants are older
Buster Posey is the man. It's interesting, they canned what's his name and took an old school approach, it's really been a change in philosophy. There's pressure there, unbelievable"I think there's pressure to put this team in a position to win ball games because, as you mentioned, the pitching staff is really good and I believe that's going to continue through the year," Giants POBO Buster Posey said a few weeks ago on Giants Talk. "Yeah, I think there's urgency from everybody to provide these guys with run support."
