Baseball in Japan, S. Korea, Dominican Rep. Venezuela, Cuba, etc is now arguably a bigger part of the culture than it is in the U.S..
Kind of because they don't have any other sports. I guess Japan has Sumo wrestling.

I'd say modern baseball popularity in Japan mirrors 19th century American baseball. American baseball has been trying to catch up with modern taste, all the rule changes. I don't know about Japanese having issues like that. I think you could argue Japanese baseball style is reminiscent of 19th century American baseball, the small ball approach. I would argue ichiro was basically mimicking a 19th century player. With ichiro being such a student of its history I've wondered how he felt about that

Jay and I have gone to two games in the past. One at Petco DR vs. PR and one in Pheonix. USA vs Canada. Such a great experience.
It was a great experience that I would love to do again. Both games were awesome. The first in San Diego they really get into the baseball game. They bring band instruments and go crazy. Darren and stood up most of the game it was epic

I was curious about Donovan, believe he was eligible to play for Germany. Guess he was quite interested to be on the American team, there was an effort to promote it. Might get a kick out of this promo piece
However, what the USA entry still lacks, to this point anyway, is some certified grit, stubborn toughness and someone who admittedly gets chills by simply thinking about pulling on that jersey with U.S.A. splashed across the chest.

Brendan Donovan, St. Louis’ version of Captain America, would be right for the USA squad for so many reasons, and he would quickly become manager Mark DeRosa’s favorite player -- much the way he is Oliver Marmol’s trusty security blanket on the Cardinals -- with his indefatigable work ethic.

That's what I was wondering about when he was first presented as a trade target. The cardinals would hang on to him for the sake of team culture. Like how the mariners did with Mitch Haniger. Is there any kind of a comparison between those two?
