Re: Young for Marte?
I wonder what the exact trade proposal was as in who else was going to the D-Bags besides Young?

Doesn't sound like they got to that point.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 24, 2026 8:18 pmI wonder what the exact trade proposal was as in who else was going to the D-Bags besides Young?

Gil Meche, Joel Pinero, insert name of your choice here. They were all at the beginning of their careers and too valuable to trade to make good teams great. Remind me all the rings that strategy has brough us? Cole Young is so good that if Marte ONLY explodes the next two years we will be lost at MIF? I thought this Farm System was loaded? Cole young is the only MIF we have? If so? This Farm aint what Jerry claims it is.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Feb 24, 2026 8:17 pm
Marte is at the end of his career. Young is at the beginning of his. There may be some preference for their own guys going on but they've also had this player in the system for several years and they probably think they have a pretty good understanding of his potential.
I think the intriguing part of a Marte trade would have been the chance of an outlier season where he explodes for like 6 wins or something like that. But realistically that probably has to happen in 2026 or maybe 2027. And then after that you're lucky if he gives you an Adam Frazier season.
Draft, Develop and Trade....unless you have to trade a guy that couldn't hit out of a wet paper bag last year because he has the dreaded "potential" tag.

I didn't say the team would be lost at MIF. You're distorting my position to inflate your own sense of righteous indignation.Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue Feb 24, 2026 9:59 pmGil Meche, Joel Pinero, insert name of your choice here. You said one is at the end of his career, and the other isn't. Basically saying the future value of a guy that looks like he is a AAAA hitter is worth more than investing in the next two years of Marte. I disagree

Re: Young for Marte?
I think we can make too much of the end of career business, wringing our hands over a player being over 30. Ohtani is 31 years old, Judge and Betts are 33 years old. Teams didn't seem reluctant to add them, they are elite bats. I really hate passing up the chance to add an elite bat
Re: Young for Marte?
Yes, that's true. Marte is going into his age 32 season. He's nearing the end. He's still young enough that he could explode and have a monster season. That's possible.Michael K. wrote: ↑Wed Feb 25, 2026 12:28 amYou said one is at the end of his career, and the other isn't. Cole Young is at the beginning of his career. You say that he looks like a AAAA hitter, but the Mariners obviously have a different opinion.

Re: Young for Marte?
I'd call it interesting, the mariners are probably happier with the Donovan deal since it is less of a commitment.
https://sodomojo.com/mariners-red-line- ... e=v_recircThe optics here are… interesting, to say the least. The implication is that the Mariners could have actually made a trade for a three-time All-Star with 35.6 rWAR for his career, but didn't because they wanted to protect a guy who managed only 0.5 rWAR as a rookie in 2025

Isn't Marte known to be a little toxic in the clubhouse? Just asking
