I can understand it. In one case you're winning for your city. In the other you're winning for your country.
Agreed. I really enjoy the WBC when I've seen the games.

Americans aren't allowed to be patriotic anymore and want to kick another country's butt, but that's exactly how these guys feel.

I love the idea. Like the Olympics but they actually use the best players.

Americans are great at everything, if they aren't then it's written off as not important like soccer. It's different being a small poor country being the best at something
You think soccer is written off in the U.S. because the men's teams aren't great? It's the other way around. They aren't great because soccer is viewed here as a sport for little kids and as they grow older they turn to football and baseball. For women it is different because there is no NFL or MLB for them therefore they get better athletes involved and are competitive on the world stage.

And, frankly, black America doesn't give two shits about soccer.

No, I am saying nobody cares that they aren't great. There are efforts made occasionally to try and make us care but it really doesn't work. There's no concern about America's place in the world because we aren't very good at the world's most popular sport.

Article about it, the names involved, not just playing but coaching, it is incredible. And it takes something like the WBC to really appreciate it
"It starts with who we are," Fernando Tatis Jr. said. "It starts with our culture. In the Dominican Republic, it's what we grow with and what we've seen, and how we feel, how we dance. It's all a credit to the Dominican Republic, and who we are as a person."

“That's why we have guys that are really emotional -- because they play for their countries and they're having fun and they see the crowd and everything,” Juan Soto said. “I think it brings everything out of you."

When the Dominican Republic takes on the USA on Sunday evening at Miami’s loanDepot park, it won’t just be a ballgame: It will be a showcase of country pride that borders on religious fervor.

“There are three things [in the Dominican Republic],” Vladimir Guerrero Jr. said. “Our homeland, baseball and the bible.”

Its not a big deal but it is kind it would have been very easy to be diplomatic about it like Vlad JR. And Tricia even gave him an out that he ignored and didn't take. There are almost as many Mariner fans as people in the DR and making them feel less important isn't ideal....

We have been waiting 50 years for a WS. 49 6-7 month seasons vs. a two week tourney that has only happened about a half dozen times. I want team USA to win but it would be like finding $5 bucks vs. winning a $1Billion power ball if the M's ever win it all.

He could have been but instead he was honest. If anybody should applaud honestly I think it be you. Players play for their teammates, their team. Julio pointed out they can play for their countrymen, their country. Julio doesn't owe us a thing, the 50 year wait has nothing to do with him. It's just funny to me when the mood here has been to trade his dumb ass but at the same time he owes us something.

Who here would cry in their pillow if Julio was traded? But on the other hand he's supposed to be emotionally involved with our lack of a WS for 50 years, go figure

I was talking about me not him. I would think players would care about there fans and he does, he just didn't consider it at that moment which as I said at the top isn't a big deal...

It's like a jealousy thing? As a Julio fan I have no problem at all that the people he grew up with in his village are more important to him in terms of delivering a championship than me . I hope he does it

I don't either but a lot of people do and either he was pretty naive to not realize that or didn't care....

A lot of people do... Well they can go fuck themselves...Sorry but if there's a constant to how I've viewed the world my entire life that's it. Maybe Julio is just being naive, but if he doesn't care then good for him, that's my opinion.

So Julio can feel however he wants but fans have to agree or they can go fuck themselves. Nobody is allowed to have a differing opinion even if they are paying his salary....
