The old ballparks were very conducive to it. Here are the dimensions in 1911/1912 when he hit a combined 47 triples:
Tiger Stadium: 345/467/370
Shibe Park (Philadelphia): 378/515/340
League Park (Cleveland): 375/460/290
White Sox Park: 362/420/362
Huntington Avenue Grounds (Boston): 350/456/320
Fenway Park (opened in 1912): 321/488/314
Hilltop Park (New York): 365/542/400
Polo Grounds (renovated in 1911): 279/483/258
Griffith Stadium (Washington): 407/421/320
Sportsmans Park (St. Louis): 330/430/315
With outfielders wearing Mordecai Brown model gloves and the Tom Emanski video not yet being in existence, if you had any kind of power at all, 20 triples was a cinch. I don't know which is crazier, that the people who built these ballparks had no sense when it came to field dimensions, that networks couldn't broadcast a game that didn't look like they just handed cameras to a couple of shitfaced drunks, that they actually broadcasted other programs over the World Series (erasing the footage), or that it took until the 1980s before someone said "Say...maybe we should wear hats and jerseys to games instead of dressing like we're going to Mass."

Wow, Pereda played Wednesday and is playing again tonight. Love it!!! So weird to have a lineup change I like. They had been alternating him and the Garv....

I heard there is a Passel of a few dozen Iowa Pigs roaming around in the Cornfields beyond the fence. If the ball gets under the fence and one of the Pigs eats it, it is regarded as an inside the Pork HR...rockycola wrote: ↑Sat May 30, 2026 12:33 amWonder what the ground rules are for the Field of Dreams in Iowa.D-train wrote: ↑Fri May 29, 2026 11:37 pm542 ft at Hilltop Park. Cal has begun hitting off a tee. Don't think it's going to be the all star break
Build responsibly? What the heck does that mean?"He's doing well right now," Hollander said of Raleigh. "He's catching, he's throwing out to 130 feet, I believe. Just want to build responsibly, and make sure that when he cuts it loose 100%, that he feels 100%."
