Terms of minor league stats, Emerson seems to be developing as was projected aside from his minor league stats. We are getting what the scouting saw as opposed to his stats.
Colt? I don't think the scouts saw any of these numbers coming:

I think they did, that's why he was regarded as a top prospect that was ready for promotion. You didn't buy into it because of his slash lines.
Widely regarded as having one of the best pure hit tools in baseball, he profiles as an elite, high-on-base infielder with a polished offensive approach, excellent strike-zone discipline, and reliable defensive versatility.

Scouting Grades (20-80 Scale)
Hit: 60
Power: 50
Run: 45
Field: 50
Arm: 55
Overall: 55

No they thought he would be a high BA/OBP low K rate guy with maybe mid power. He is none of those things so far. Both me and the scouts were wrong but the peripheral numbers are pretty bad:

Yeah, he's a month into his career the results will probably adjust. For me it's a pretty successful job of development so far

I asked a Fantasy Prospect ranker expert why he didn't have Sloan ranked.

If they told him to start selling out a bit more for more power than it is great development. Did they?

No, I think its more allowing him to grow into the hitter he eventually is going to be. They can help a guy elevate the ball but I think it's pretty much left up the player how he swings the bat. Power is something I think that evolves.

I've been meaning to bring something up terms of bat speed and over swinging. I think bat speed is more a constant. A hitter doesn't try to adjust how fast he swings in relation to the situation. Over swinging is more the rest of the body. I've seen Julio admit to over swinging, but he says it's his legs that are at fault

I'd say he's probably been lucky with some fly balls getting out and will end the season around .700 OPS. An improvement defensivelg at SS over JP though.

Data on Emerson is still pretty limited but I would expect the league to start throwing him more offspeed and bendy stuff, and then we'll see how he adjusts to that.

Colt says he's getting stronger
Daniel Kramer
@DKramer_

Colt Emerson is flashing all five tools, but it’s the power that’s really emerged -- and perhaps a little unforeseen.

“Growing up, my thing was gap-to-gap and hit doubles … What’s happening now is I’m starting to get stronger.”
