Scott Servais’ game strategy thinking revealed. Mostly bulb off.

3B certainly isn't going to be filled by anyone currently in the system unless you count Joe "one HR every 100 PAs" Rizzo.
It's going to be Seager until 2021 and hopefully Marte soon after that. Mariners aren't going to trade Seager unless he waives the clause in his contract.

Well they traded Bruce and paid all but $3MM of his salary and got a garbage prospect back. Why couldn't they do the same with Seager. btw he is on pace for about 2 WAR for a full season. Not worth his contract but not horrible.

Because they have to pay more to trade him than they would to keep him and they don't have anyone who he is blocking. It doesn't accomplish anything to trade him.

God that poison pill is a thing of beauty isn't it. Thank you Jack, you Fluck! I wonder if the owners were too stupid to realize how bad that was, not to mention unprecedented to my knowledge.

I agree in general. If he plays well all year, they might be able and willing to move him in the off season but my guess he plays out his contract in Seattle. Expectations are that both Rendon and Sandoval could be moved before the trading deadline. There just isn't going to be enough of a market for 3rd basemen imo to move Seager before the deadline unless there a few key guys get Gillooly'd. If Kyle really wants out of Seattle, he could send the younger Seager to do the dirty work but I hear he whiffs a lot.

So his 2022 salary is $15MM and the buyout is $0-3MM. So a team would have to agree to pay him more than $12-15MM over the next 3.5 years. I think that is very possible.

Here is a Seager trade with us paying 50% of his salary

Trade
2019 $5MM
2020 $9.75MM
2021 $9.25MM
2022 $7.5MM
Total $31.5

Trade partner also pays $31.5 and hopes for 5-6 WAR or ~$40MM+ in value

Keep
2019 $10MM
2020 $19.5MM
2021 $18.5MM
2022 $3MM
Total $51MM

Yep he is tradeable even with the poison pill
