So about Servais
Re: So about Servais
Not many men were born to be great managers and motivators more than Tommy Lasorda. Lasorda was always quick to acknowledge that h 3e could do more harm then good by "overmanaging" on many levels.
Lasorda's greatest ability was to let his VERY EXCEPTIONAL players do their thing and to let them know he would support them when they went through tough times.
No manager in the history of baseball has ever taken a group of average players and turned them into All Stars with just the right threats or motivational speeches.
Servais style of managing so far has yielded 500 results from 500 talent. A lot of "rookie / young" managers would envy his results with the cards he has been dealt so far.
There is such a thing as OJT and "learning curve" also.
Anyone who was not MAN ENOUGH to make it to even CLASS A BALL and think he's qualified to call Servais "A Wimp" or else "a Pussy" ought to take a good, long look at himself in the mirror someday.

Re: So about Servais
lol how funny... now your qualifications are you must have played A ball to be critical of Servais. Why do you feel like you're the arbiter in every situation Moe? I could give 2 shits about your opinion... and that's giving more than I should.
Actually I'm gonna heed your advice and go take a couple looks in the mirror... *goes to mirror*
K I'm back...
FUCK SERVAIS. HE'S A SHIT MANAGER.
Damn... didn't help much.
There are managers who inspire a culture of winning in that clubhouse. They set an expectation. He's not one of them.
Melvin may just make the playoffs 5 times in 9 years with the A's despite being $80-120 million behind the highest paid teams in the AL. If you don't think he's played a significant role in giving the A's organization a competitive culture and winning identity, you're kidding yourself. The A's bring in dumpster dives who suddenly become studs when they show up... what happens when those guys sign with the Servais-led M's? None of these guys ever come in and do shit. That's a culture thing.
If there were ANY signs that Servais was developing a similar culture for the M's I'd shut right up. But there are none.
If I were a vet I'd LOVE to play for the M's under Servais. I'd just collect my millions, suck it up, and plan my retirement. Servais lets the Roger Dorn's of the world run wild... hell look at Seager, Felix... how embarrassing. It's pretty clear more than a few guys have quit on this WIMP.

If Earl Weaver managed the Phillies in the 60s, Richie Allen would have picked him up and hung him up on a clothes hook in Wes Covington’s locker.Moe Gibbs wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 6:24 pmYep..if only Earl Weaver could have managed the Philadelphia Phillies in the 1960s he would have reversed their "Culture Of Losing" and turned that team into a dynasty. With just the right words to say to his players, a "Culture Of Winning" type manager can magically add 200 points to any guys OPS.
We all know this to be true.

your reasoning is odd, do I have to have been a chef to send back poor food?
Do I have to have been in Congress to rip corrupt politicians?
Re: So about Servais
You have based much of your reasoning about Servais being a wimp on how poorly his MLB career was.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 10:19 pmlol how funny... now your qualifications are you must have played A ball to be critical of Servais. Don't try to weasel out of that.
How pathetic does one who never made it as far in baseball as Servais did need to be to use that as a reason to call him a wimp / loser..?
You would even make it through a MLB BP without shitting your pants.
Re: So about Servais
Servais let's his wife hold the remote. All the time.
There's no getting around the fact he's a pussy. When he yells at the umpires it's a struggle.
I remember laughing one time at how hard he tried to get thrown out of a game. The umpire just looked at him like it was a pillow fight.
I can understand defending the manager when its called for, but Servais is a beta male doofus. I think that's all the guy's trying to say.

It would be great fun to watch you catch a MLB game, take your MLB ABs and then watch you hold a press conference after the game with the bright lights and microphones in your face.bpj wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 12:53 amServais let's his wife hold the remote. All the time.

Maybe we'd see you expand on what it means to be a Beta Male Doofus...?

Well, I’m still another guy who Never made it to A-Ball, but thinks SS is a Wimp.IStillLoveTheMs wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2019 10:19 pmlol how funny... now your qualifications are you must have played A ball to be critical of Servais. A nice guy, but a wimp.
Your comments about Melvin are similar to mine, he Gets Results, Against All Odds!
