Boy, nobody coughs up leads like Luis Castillo.
Considering where he pitches half his home games, he's pretty much about an average starting pitcher...who's being paid ace money.

I never really understood all the talk about him having elite stuff back when the Mariners traded for him. Yes he was pitching really well for the Reds that season but the previous year he wasn't good at all, had like a 1.36 whip.

More like veteran #3 starter money.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 3:52 pmBoy, nobody coughs up leads like Luis Castillo.

Re: Luis vs. Lodolo Game thread
Makes me wonder if the M's should be coming up with their own out of the box "Moneyball" style strategy. Bring in Pitchers make them look better than they are and then trade them for bats. Seems like teams might be willing to overpay for some of our pitchers based on their success in T-mobile.
Another strategy would be to spend all their draft capital on hitters with the thought that you can attract good pitchers in FA with the possibility of T-Mobile making them great.

Basically Castillo is an innings eater, his value is in his durability. Give him the ball every fifth day, get your 180 inningsGL_Storm wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 4:38 pmMore like veteran #3 starter money.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 3:52 pmBoy, nobody coughs up leads like Luis Castillo.

Agreed, Marco should have been a #4 or #5 at best.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 3:24 amI don't think Castillo was elite or even very good.bpj wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 3:20 amSeattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 3:01 am
You asked if he was "good" last year.
Idk about all that.
I think it's tough to say he wasn't good when he hung a 3.61 ERA and tossed 175 innings.
To say that's league average is hilarious.
I don't know, we watched it play out with guys like Marco.
2023-
Home ERA: 3.77
Away: 7.17
2022-
Home: 3.58
Away: 4.84
I wouldn't trust any pitchers stats in T-Mobile to tell any kind of story. They all look good here.
I just think he was "good" last year.
Marco was always pure dog shit.
B/c the style of pitching is so different I'm not sure it's comparable. A pitcher like Marco relies on balls in play so park suppression will always help him. I'm not sure that's the same for Castillo.
But from 2018-2022 he had the 76th best cumulative ERA among starting pitchers.
His Home ERA was 3.74.
His Away ERA was 4.13.
And that's actually less of a difference that I had expected.
If they can get anything for Castillo, I'd happily pull the trigger just to have his salary available the next couple years (for Dipoto to waste on someone else).
Re: Luis vs. Lodolo Game thread
Looking at Marco's B-Ref page, I don't see him on a roster and so I guess he's out of baseball now. He got 6 years and made some good money, which is a pretty good outcome overall. Still, it's a little surprising he isn't on someone's AAA roster, though I suppose that could still happen.bpj wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 6:36 pmAgreed, Marco should have been a #4 or #5 at best.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Wed Apr 16, 2025 3:24 amI don't think Castillo was elite or even very good.

Even crazier is that Pharmabro could actually steal with 2 hours to the game ( i.e. now) as the on-deck poster and he rarely refuses an opportunity to do so.
SfdB and Pharma never usually miss... what's going on?
