Why would he have to play 3B?
He's a far, far superior defensive shortstop compared to Emerson.
I'm assuming if this trade is made that Emerson is sent back to Tacoma and Donovan is your everyday 3B.
Emerson has to work his bat out.
They've already done it.
And I don't think that's true... if Emerson continues to struggle with the bat they'll have him sort things out in the minors.

Huh...it's up to him to pitch well. I'm saying the option is irrelevant. Explain to me how he gets to 180 innings without pitching well? If he's on pace for 180 innings he's pitching well. Bro...
Ofc if Castillo is pitching well the vesting option isn't that big of a deal.
But there's a very, very low chance that he pitches well given his regression and age.
I am projecting, and with good evidence, that he will in fact not pitch well and there's no way they pick up the vesting option.
He might just be a bad pitcher now.
Is he going to magically regain command, sit 98 mph, and have elite secondaries?
History isn't kind to players like him.

But they aren't going to trade for a SS with YEARS of control to replace him.. Massive difference.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:55 pmThey started him at 3B in favor of JP Crawford at SS...D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:53 pmIf you think they are moving the $95M wonder boy off SS where he is providing his only value, I don't know what to tell you. I'm just saying he's somewhere in that second tier of prospects. I love the walks and hopefully he's strong-minded enough to maintain his approach. I think the Mariners advocate for a more aggressive style of hitting, so I guess we'll see how that works out. Also, I could see the Mariners trying him at different positions and putting him on a true utility player path.

But they could also view him as a 3B which many pegged him as during his development. Especially considering we don't really have a real 3B in the org.
Trade for Lopez, move Emerson to 3B, have Dono play the outfield. Could be your best chance to improve in '27.

Maybe he will who knows. They aren't going to have to limit his innings if he isn't pitching well. And if he is pitching well why would they limit his innings?D-train wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:56 pmHe just needs to try harder. Honestly, I think along with more financial classes for highschool students they should kick in some in logic as well

If he is cooked, it's not "up to him" to pitch better. He may just not be very good anymore.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 6:58 pmHuh...it's up to him to pitch well. We aren't explaining him getting to 180 innings. We believe he is going to suck next year the White Sox wont let him near those 180 innings.
You're arguing very slim odds that he's worth that vesting option. We have had the stance that the odds of that option vesting because he's actually pitching well are insanely low.
Re: White Sox to Acquire Luis Castillo
Last offseason MLB Trade Rumors ranked Luke Weaver and Seranthony Dominguez No. 41 and No. 43 on its rankings of free agents, projecting two-year, $18 million contracts for each right-hander.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2025/11/ ... tions.html
Weaver signed for $22 million and Dominguez for $20 million.

Ah right, pedantic to just sit there while some moron claims that there's a snowball's chance in hell that a 34 year old pitcher who is physically declining, performing like shit, and on pace to throw 155 innings this year (not hurt)... is going to magically pull a horse shoe out of his ass next year and justify a $25M vesting option... and not say anything?GL_Storm wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2026 7:21 pmThis is such a stupid, pedantic argument. You would have to be criminally stupid to think Castillo has a chance to make ANY team want to pay him $25M in 2028 given the trajectory of his performance.
Do you know how many pitchers toss 180 innings each year? About 20. Out of 200ish starting pitchers.
But sure, the stances are equal. Thanks GL_Storm... great input...
