It's like he laid a trap to get the debate off topic that everyone fell into. By complaining about 54% it's like you have accepted the moves he makes is focused on that. That 54% is a successful team so he wins. I think it make more sense to complain about his moves not being focused on winning 54% than complaining about 54%
54% is trash.

The only AL teams that made the playoffs with a ~.540 win percentage were the Blue Jays at .549 in the final Wild Card spot and the Twins at .537 in a weak AL Central.

And the good teams rolled them.

The problem is all evidence looks like Dipoto is shooting for a 54% team when winning it all takes more of a 60%+ goal unless you're just trying to be the underdog (loser).

The 54% was in terms of a decade. And he was correct, only the most successful teams in MLB have maintained a 54% winning percentage over a decade. This is his sustainability argument. But yeah, let's keep debating the 54% instead of asking him how he intends to actually do it.

We're watching how he intends to do it.

Last year he achieved it with AJ Pollock and Tommy La Stella. Can't wait to see this year's recipe.

54% hasn't been successful the last three years when they've had a chance. It hasn't been successful since Jerry got here.

But, yeah, he totally still deserves the benefit of the doubt...

Got a dumb question.

Why did they let Mike Ford go?

Geoff Baker, former Mariner beat reporter for the Seattle Times, re-emerges to address the franchise's financial situation:

Ford was arb eligible and they don't view him as a player worth paying even an arb-1 level salary.

Jerry was dumb 1.4M for a DH/1B option.

They did it to save $1.4M and now will replace him with a guy making over $10M for about the same production.

54% isn't small, this is what I keep bringing up.. The issue as I see it isn't Dipoto thinking small by aiming at 54%. It's how are the moves he makes building the foundation of that team that could do it. Sustainability isn't just not spending money
54% is beyond it idiotic on every level imaginable with number one being thinking that fans should thank them for aspiring to such "lofty" heights.

I actually don't mind winning an average of 88 wins during a decade IF they win an average of 82 wins for 5 straight years followed by 94 wins for 5 straight years.
