Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Braves getting way too cute imo:
Contreras put up .860 OPS and 138 OPS+. 2.7 WAR in just 376 PAs and is only 24 yo. That is 4.3 WAR per 600 PAs
Brewers freaking scored and didn't have to give up shit.
Murphy put up .759 OPS and 120 OPS+. 3.5 WAR in 612 PAs and is 27 yo That is 3.4 WAR per 600 PAsNow, Murphy is a much better defender than Contreras. There are plenty of valid reasons to prefer the former to the latter. But it’s curious to give up Contreras and prospects just to land Murphy—particularly in a situation where Contreras was already paired with a solid defensive catcher in d’Arnaud.

Damn if we could get the 2019 version! 36 bombs and .855 OPS.seattlefan-daBronx wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 3:24 pmhttps://twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/minn ... de-rumors/

Kepler would make sense. Ideally, one of the three young corner OF's steps up and becomes your everyday LF, but if not then Kepler is a good insurance policy. And if one of them does step up, then Kepler is a sort of ideal 4th outfielder. Then you sign Wil Myers and tell Pittsburgh they can fuck right off with their exorbitant demands for above average player Bryan Reynolds.

JK 5-51
Trammell 1-31
Marlowe was the star of the show hitting .250 with a 39% K rate in the hitters paradise that is the PCL
Only way they trade for Kepler is if they give of their moronic plan to count on the kids.

Do you really think, at this point, that I'm not aware of the risk of counting on one of the three young COFs to have a breakout season?D-train wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 4:41 pmHere is how the 3 finished 2022:GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 4:28 pmKepler would make sense. And yes, I still think Kepler would make some sense. I'd love it if they got someone better, but I could live with Kepler who is at least a legitimate player.

You were talking about it like it was a reasonably possibility so I wasn't sure. Also, when I reply to a post it isn't just for the person I am replaying to, it is providing info that dozens of other forum members might not be aware of so I wouldn't get offended by me stating something you are already aware of.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 4:59 pmDo you really think, at this point, that I'm not aware of the risk of counting on one of the three young COFs to have a breakout season?D-train wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 4:41 pmHere is how the 3 finished 2022:GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 4:28 pmKepler would make sense. A Kepler Sam platoon in LF makes perfect sense imo but they aren't trading for him to be a 4th OFer obviously.

I do think it's a reasonable possibility. It doesn't match up with the idea of a right-handed batter to platoon with JK or one of the others, but it does fit the need of being a low-cost acquisition and insurance policy, and if they sign Myers he can be part of that insurance policy as well. Overall, this is a very right-handed heavy lineup with Julio-France-Teoscar-Suarez-Moore who should all be available in the lineup against lefty pitchers. And maybe Myers as well if they actually sign him.D-train wrote: ↑Tue Dec 13, 2022 5:05 pmYou were talking about it like it was a reasonably possibility so I wasn't sure.
