This offense is shockingly carrying this team wow!!!! Feels so good to have an offense and when our pitching is fully healthy wow!!! Other then Mets we are the hottest team in the game. No Polanco today and others stepped up. Well he popped up but still feels good he was not needed. Rivas is a pure great player. Really helps his team out all u gotta do is the Lil things and he does that. Jp is our new leadoff hitter. So great to see him really come back strong this season. Actual good hitting coaches can fix this offense!! Just needed Edgar and Braves long time coach. Dehart and co were horrible and it proves it was them!!!

There seems a need to always find someone to blame. I don't have the need as much as others. The mariners were running a system that didn't work, dipoto has admitted it'. They canned Dehart who then was given a promotion by the Yankees they seem to be doing okay hitting wisebpj wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 8:47 amSomeone could say killing people is bad and you'd find a way to support the murderer.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 8:22 amHe's currently the director of hitting for the NY Yankees who lead MLB in a number of hitting categories. Re: 30/4 Game Thread Hancock v Anderson
I think there's a number of different reasons. The first is probably the change in hitting philosophy that went into effect late last season with the firings. This was an organizational approach to hitting that had been in place for years. It really mimics the general trend around MLB utilizing a lot of technology. That type of approach has paid dividends with the pitching but not so much with the hitting.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:56 amThere are IMO four possible reasons why the Mariners are performing better at the plate so far this season...
1: they have faced sub-par pitching
2. the hitting coaches are doing a great job
3. they fixed the batter's eye
4. players (e.g. Polanco, Crawford) are healthier
So what they did was simplify things and go more traditional. It took awhile to take off this season but it could be catching on. The one area I guess that could be tracked is hitting the ball up the center or the opposite field. The mariners have been notorious pull hitters but that seems to be changing.
There's also been health issues, Crawford and polanco seem healthier. Polanco has rebuilt his batting stance. I've mentioned before I'm curious about a Garver resurgence. Garver last 15 days .273/ .385/ .455/ .839

Congratulations to the Mariners for rising to first place and good luck maintaining it till October. I’m not convinced they have fixed anything and this doesn’t mean shit until they prove they can do it against better teams consistently

Sure, it's early but it's not like they haven't been facing quality teams. They are sixth on ESPN's weighed power index which weighs strength of opponents

They have played Boston, Detroit, Reds, Texas and Houston, Jays and A’s which are at 0.500 0r better, took care of business against Marlins and Angels. Decent quality of teamsCoeurd’Alene J wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 12:50 pmCongratulations to the Mariners for rising to first place and good luck maintaining it till October. I hope I'm wrong but we are still in "smoke and mirrors" mode. We need to address first base and bridge relief issues imo. We have been very fortunate thus far.desbcoach wrote: ↑Thu May 01, 2025 3:07 pmThey have played Boston, Detroit, Reds, Texas and Houston, Jays and A’s which are at 0.500 0r better, took care of business against Marlins and Angels. Dehart actually is the Yankees director of hitting now, he's not a hitting coach per say, he's supervising all the Yankees hitting coaches through out their system. So maybe the Yankees felt even though he was a horrible hitting coach he'd be good at handling other hitting coaches. Or perhaps the Yankees took into consideration the situation Dehart was working in, the lack of performance wasn't his fault, who knows
