"the #Mariners 40(39) man payroll stands at $117,288,333." What is this? 2006? They still have room for one more player, but I can't imagine it will be anyone who projects to more than 12 HRs a year.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
They first went over $100M in 2008. $100M in 2008 = $141M today so we are currently $24M under both 2008 payroll and 2023 Payroll.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
I do wonder what type of discount Snell would give. If he'd sign for a Luis Castillo contract they could probably fit a Snell/Harold Ramirez under $145M
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
Snell wants to pitch for the M's. That's huge.
I don't know if that translates into a discount - business is business. But we do spend a lot of time on this board talking about the intangibles that prevent FA from coming to Seattle. Here an intangible that apparently works in our favor. Why in god's name would we not make a concerted effort to sign him?
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
My guess is they add another INFer for $5-$7M and say the need the remaining $15-20M for in season flexibility that never gets used. Book it.

Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League thread!
Because Snell projects to 3.3 WAR in 174 IPs and even if he accepts Castillo/Ray type deal at $25M a year (doubtful) he will be making over $24M more than Woo. They have Woo at 1.4 WAR but in only 127 IPs. They say there are now innings limitation on him though so if he also goes 174 innings that would be 1.9 WAR. So are they going to pay $24M incremental payroll for 1.4 WAR??? Rhetorical question.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Thu Jan 11, 2024 10:34 pmSnell wants to pitch for the M's. That's huge.
