Yep. Prospect are always just prospects.

Remember when everyone got giddy about Dustin Ackley?

Yep #2 overall pick and hit .303/.908 as a 23 yo in Tacoma.

Maybe he will be great but I have my doubts that a guy that had a lower OPS than Brian O Keefe will do much in the big leagues.

btw Haggerty had a .997 OPS in the same number of games in Tacoma.
He was also 29 years old with 120 games of MLB experience in AAA last year. He also was a far worse player statistically than Bliss through his age 23 season in the minors.

Haggerty also hit .091/.200/.291 in April last year in the bigs. He turned it around with a decent August/Sept in limited action. But if we're not willing to give grace to a 23 year old for 19 mediocre AFL games... what are we doing giving grace to a 29 year old?
Neither Sam nor Bliss will ever be a MLB regular imo. But feel free to join the kids on X thinking Jerry traded for a young Cano...
In no way do I think that.

I think Bliss has a ceiling of like a a Jason Kipnis but a floor of a Josh Rojas. I think taking the feeble opinion of a small minority of M's Twitter homers (who are idiots) but then referencing AFL stats from 19 games as a counter is pretty brash.

Is he Cano? No. Is a .900 OPS out of a 23 year old 2B exciting? Yes.

Not focused on the 19 games in the AFL but when you add that to the 60 he played in the best hitters league in baseball with half the ballparks at double the elevation of Snoqualmie pass and he puts up a .779 OPS it gives me pause. Call me crazy.

The weird thing is he was amazing at AA Amarillo in the Texas league where most guys struggle.

I think we will know what we have after this season.

I actually see him as a Dylan Moore replacement late 2024 and into 2025 which is fine.

I won't call you crazy.

I'll simply say that there are sure fire prospects who tore up the minors who turned out to be terrible big leaguers... and guys who were late developers... and everyone inbetween.

He's a good little player and he'll get the chance to show what he's worth. And it's not like we're running murderer's row out there where we should be worried about him getting some AB's. Every year we're handing the Jack Mayfield's and the Jacob Nottingham's of the world time. They haven't spent the money to expect anything different moving forward.

It's our sad reality that Bliss will almost assuredly have to come up and make an impact.

You could have called me crazy and been correct but for other reasons. :)

Geez, like their fifth starter. It's conceivable Paxton puts together a monster season. Dodgers could be tough
