it is interesting, the Yanks were conceded the AL pennant after they signed Cole, why bother playing the games, that be pretty wild to have the Orioles knock them out of the playoffs

Yeah, and as fans some said, why try and sign a guy like Cole when we have no chance?Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 6:06 amit is interesting, the Yanks were conceded the AL pennant after they signed Cole, why bother playing the games, that be pretty wild to have the Orioles knock them out of the playoffs

Re: $50 wins prediction contest
sure, and people thought it was dumb for the Padres to sign Machado
Re: $50 wins prediction contest
Both the Padres and White Sox rebuild finally paying off. Astros lost again last night and we're still two back.
Astros under 500 now. I remember people saying that they were going to be a dynasty for at least the next five years.

I liked the move, and would have been all for signing Cole or Rendon last offseason (they weren't going to sign here though). You get good players when you can, and it wouldn't have cost a first round pick to sign a free agent.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 7:13 amsure, and people thought it was dumb for the Padres to sign Machado

I agree but why did Machado choose to sign for the Padres but the two you mentioned wouldn't have signed here?Juliooooo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 1:55 pmI liked the move, and would have been all for signing Cole or Rendon last offseason (they weren't going to sign here though). For one, Padres outbid the other teams. Market was less than expected for Machado and Harper the big name teams were not offering the contracts they expected, so they went with Philly and SD. Cole and Rendon got bigger contracts from big market "contending" teams (Angels were expected to contend). Mariners wouldn't be able to compete with the big markets realistically.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 2:01 pmI agree but why did Machado choose to sign for the Padres but the two you mentioned wouldn't have signed here?Juliooooo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 11, 2020 1:55 pmI liked the move, and would have been all for signing Cole or Rendon last offseason (they weren't going to sign here though). I sure hope we don't go cheap when we just need a couple FAs to complete the rebuild.

I don't think Dipoto will sign big name FA's (30 million/yr types). I think he'll see what he has in the farm through 2021, and maybe trade for someone at the deadline or before 2022 season.
