Garver is a pretty decent back-up catcher. He is paid too much but he is still a good bet to produce at least a little. Right now he is walking at a BETTER THAN 15% RATE! The trouble is he is under a 15 % hit rate and no XBH so far. He will slug. And his batting average should recover and FFS end the god dam hitters eye shit.
2. Took a pass on Pete Alonso who would have been easy to sign. Even if he wasn't off to a hot start and just hitting at his average standards, him in the lineup would probably have us close to .500 right now.
Was Pete willing to sign here for what he did there? This pissed me off he is a MOTO hitter. If we had one genuine uprade over what we closed with last year we would be a lot better.
3. Turned down Triston Casas and Masataka Yoshida for Luis Castillo. This would be okay if the Mariners had signed Alonso, but since they didn't, this might well be a bad no-trade although we'd have to see how the season progresses on this.
I agree, but Casas has a 41 OPS+, and Yoshida is injured but is expected to start a rehab soon. LC has been one of our top 2 pitchers so far. If we had done this deal we would probably be a game or 2 more behind. And it wasn't a perfect fit with Yoshida, Casas, and Raley all booked for DH 1B mostly but with Robles out that would have worked out anyhow
4. Decided that Ryan Bliss was our everyday second baseman. The ceiling for Bliss is probably that he'll be a similar player to Dylan Moore, which is kind of a compliment but not really much of one.
Bliss has a good speed/power/small strike zone combo going. He is injured and may be out for the year.
5. Didn't seek out an alternative for J.P. Crawford, who has lost his bat speed and isn't ever going to get it back.
He has a .162 average but a .367 OBP! OPS is still in the mid .500s. I think he will climb up to .700 at some point.
6. Signed Donovan Solano as our big free-agent pickup. While Solano has been a decent hitter, he's 37 and is looking like yet another one-year-too-late pickup.
You could be right he might be washed but I doubt anybody was like "Long live the King" after that sign
7. Signed Jorge Polanco after previously deciding that he wasn't good enough to be on the team. This might actually work out, which will unfortunately convince ownership that their approach is the right one.
Polauncho!![]()
8. Signed Rowdy Tellez who had almost nothing left in the tank and apparently used up the rest of it in spring training.
He launched one out today. I hope it is a sign of things to come. He hit it off Jacob DeGrom who is a freaking stud but we chased him after 4 innings and 3 runs. But you could be right![]()
Man, even the one thing that has worked out so far (Polanco) might still blow up on us, and it's doubtful that any of these dumb decisions will work out.

He was called stupid for turning down that seven year $157 mil or whatever it was deal. After the Vladimir Guerrero Jr deal see who has the last laugh.
There's the upcoming free agent class

Yeah, I was trying to point out how dear first base men were becoming in regards to Alonso cashing in. And no Alonso isn't signing with the mariners for the deal he gave the Mets.

Palms up palms down and door knock knuckles lined up. I like it. You'd be shocked how many HS kids still can't do that.

Ty France Al player of the week
First baseman Ty France, who in 2025 signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Minnesota Twins, took home the award this week. France went 11-for-25 with two home runs and six RBIs, with a 1.273 OPS to boot

He's figured out plate discipline again.
Only striking out 6.5% of the time compared to 21.3% of the time in '24... his highest since his rookie year.
Perhaps he actually got serious this winter and stopped being a big giggle monster.

Re: Player decisions this past off-season
This is what I was getting at over the winter. I didn't want much dropoff between my starters and my fourth outfielder. I wanted four solid solid outfielders. But this is more about them not having an actual first basemanbpj wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 8:41 pmAnd they didn't even add Tellez until late February as an afterthought.D-train wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 8:14 pmRowdy and Solano bothDavidGee24 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 7:30 pm
Of course there's no guarantee that Alonso would have gotten off to a hot start in a Mariner uniform, but over the course of a season he's a 30-45 home run guy who'll likely have an OPS in the .800s. At the very least, imagine giving Rowdy's 23 plate appearances to Alonso and how much the games would change if that happened.
They seemed perfectly happy to run Luke Raley out there, even though that eliminated their depth in the outfield.
Such buffoonery with this org.
What did they think would happen when an injury hit the outfield or rotation?
