Yeah, Larry doesn't get the credit he deserves, of course that was Cleveland instead of NYC
It is more the fact that the first guy always gets massively more attention than the second but in this case Jackie was the first in the NL and Larry was the 1st in the AL. Two totally separate leagues that only played each other in the WS.

It still baffles me that the only team that played in a former save state was the Cardinals year they banned Blacks from playing for any MLB team. North wins the Civil WAR and frees the slaves but them doesn't let them play baseball in the North. That is insane.

Well, on-base% by itself is a pretty lame stat as well. It values all hits the same. So one stat off-sets what is deficient in the other. Slg% overvalues extrabase hits, ob% undervalues them. Sure there better stats but ops ain't bad.
Agreed. And it is so simple that everyone but complete idiots can understand it.

and another guy is Roberto Clemente, I really know very little about the latino MLB story. The first latino was some guy at the turn of the century and yet Clemente is viewed as the breakthrough guy and that was the sixties. You know the story of the fight over being called Bob. Card companies and the media would refer to him as Bob even though he insisted on being called Roberto, total lack of respect for his heritage...Jackie, Larry and Roberto

.757 career OPS.
I believe this has been said elsewhere on this thread, but that’s kind of irrelevant. It’s like saying “so what if the guy had 4,000 hits - only 117 were home runs”.

Pete Rose had an OPS of .784

Lead off guys aren’t supposed to hit for power. They get on base either through base hits or drawing walks, and then they cause havoc on the base paths.
