We're going with a 4-man rotation now?

They went on the cheap, knowing that paying rentals starting in August is cheaper than paying for them for the entire season. NOW? If it doesn't work, they can pretend they did everything they could, when in reality they entered this season with a team not even as good as the one from the year before that missed the playoffs.

My biggest beef with this is the entire philosophy that we need to wait until August to make this team good enough. That wasn't the case, they just didn't want to spend. Which is a giant slap in the face to the fan base they have been lying to for the entirety of this rebuild.
Who were they supposed to sign in the offseason?

The goal is to win the World Series. All that matters is the team you have after the deadline and take into the post season. You can have the foresight to realize you have enough talent and prospects to end up in a buyer's situation at the deadline. They ended up with Geno Suarez and Josh Naylor. Are you kidding me? I'm not sure how much of a dice roll it was. But, there's no way it could've ended up any better.

It ended up with the most exciting transaction in the history of the franchise. I put this one ahead of signing Robbie Cano.

I remember watching Geno on the Ms, and I thought he put up the most professional ABs on the team. He is replacing Williamson. This just seems so massive on paper. The pressure this is going to put on opposing pitchers. The excitement for the fans that already loved the guy from his previous time as a Mariner. He can help Naylor adjust, since they know each other from Arizona.

Whatever you wanted Jerry to do in the offseason, you can't complain now. This team is now STACKED.
I CONCUR. :D
Getting chills thinking about what this could be if it works.
Everyone on the planet knew we needed help on the corners and guess what? We got it!
This has GOT to force Julio and JP and Polanco to step up their games right?!?!
Offense starts clicking and I would bet that the starters up their games as well.
Good pressure coming. Enjoy!

Pete Alonso, and it would not have been difficult. They'd have a few more wins on the board already and assuming they still added Geno they would now have even more of a murderer's row of hitters, although picking up Naylor is also a big plus.

In the postseason, yes. Pretty much everyone does it. You have enough off days where you can make it work.

And obviously only need 3 starters in the WC round.

Yeah, there was absolutely nobody available that was better than what we started the season with. Jesus H. Christ. The players that were available have been discussed a shit ton in here. You just don't want to accept it. They went cheap, why else did they even mention the lack of TV money and discuss a budget this off season? Especially after promising for years that something big was going to happen. They trade because it saves them money, plain and simple. And? This saves there ass, because if it doesn't work? They just throw up their hands again and pretend they did everything they could. Again, they did not. This team did not have to be weak offensively going into the season...they just knew staying relevant and hopefully adding later would save them money. PLUS? It jives with the Draft, Develop and Trade mantra, so they don't have to look like they changed their minds on what works.

I am very happy with the moves they made AT THE DEADLINE. But pretending that hanging onto the last WC birth and hoping to make a move at the deadline is how Championships are won is fucking stupid.

Pete Alonso signed 2 years for $54 million. That would make him the highest paid player on the Mariners.

I understand that but there's two months of games left that we need to win to get into the playoffs. Going with Evans or rusty Miller every 5th start seems like giving away wins.

Championships often come from teams sitting around .500 at the deadline. What matters is the stretch run.

Look at Bryce Miller stats from last year. Hopefully we get similar to that after and this years struggles were due to injury.
