More HRs, but there is more ways than just HRs to generate power. The crazy thing, IMO, is that Julio is putting up those HR numbers in a far less hitter friendly ballpark.

Griffey hit 45 HRs in his 5th season at age 23. If Julio hits 40 HR this season at age 25 i'll stfu about him being a disappointment. Blame all the "experts" out there that built up our expectations.

Ol' DB gets so wrapped up in being contrarian that he'll post head-scratchers like that one.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2026 8:51 pmBetter than Ackley and JK. He's not Junior, but he is the best CF in baseball currently. Be nice if he'd evolve into an even better player. But I don't feel disappointed with what we have. Think about Beltre, he seemed pretty disappointing but evolved into a first ballot HOFer. I see room for improvement with Julio, I also feel it could happen
And Beltre didn't "evolve" into a HOFer, he had one of the greatest seasons ever for a third baseman before we got him, and he made no improvements to his play in his five years with the Mariners. He went to Boston and Texas which suited him much better and he just hit better in other teams' uniforms.
Re: Julio
I'm way too lazy right now, chilling with a "Florida Man" double IPA in Miami to look this up, but what's his K rate so far this season compared to before?
Eye test says he's chasing garbage way less often and even when he does strike out, he seems to get deeper into the count.
I noticed last year that he stopped swinging out of his shoes all the time and limited the giant swings to once or twice per AB. And it seems like he's been sticking with that this season.

Re: Julio
I remember last year during his early slump his walk rate had almost doubled. That was the deal then, he had taken to heart the making more contact order from dipoto. That's why it wasn't supposed to happen again this season. He had sort of cleared his head of needing to make those adjustments. That seems strange, the same thing is happening?

Not Junior but pretty close. Junior took the game serious but also had fun too. Julio just has fun while not being serious. New ERA. These kids man I swear. The only way you'd see me smile if if I scored a run & we won. This new ERA of competitiveness. Julio's never gonna be a 40-40 type guy. Does he have to be no. Sad that people think he's the best CF in the game. Right now the best hitting CF resides in where else, L.A.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2026 12:43 amBecause he has to be another Junior to not be a disappointment?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2026 9:10 pmGriffey hit 45 HRs in his 5th season at age 23. No, but the comparison was made on this topic, so it's only relevant if it benefits Julio? Julio is immature, and until that changes, which I imagine it never will, he'll always start out slow and all his fanboys will excuse it. The "it all evens out in the end" bullshit pisses me off. While he lounging around as a below average player until the All Star break, all those loses that compound because of it count in the standings. The season doesn't start after the break, but it does for Julio, and it's excused....every damn year.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2026 12:43 amBecause he has to be another Junior to not be a disappointment?Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2026 9:10 pmGriffey hit 45 HRs in his 5th season at age 23.
