Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
Re: Finally! Official Hot Stove League Thread
So hopelessly vague as to be noncommittally irrelevant...
What does "expressed formal interest" mean. Did they ask him if anyone was taking him to prom? Tell them they like the cut of his jib? Swipe right on his Tinder profile?
Either way, I suppose this is encouraging news.

On another note, the Mets are moving their RF power alley fences in about 8.5 feet.

I'm not sure why Nimmo would sign for a team where a positional change would diminish his value.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:33 pmSo hopelessly vague as to be noncommittally irrelevant...

The M's are not moving Julio from CF and Nimmo is most valuable as a CF.
He's also a Boras client... Boras would never let him sign with a team that intends to play him in a corner OF spot. He said it himself, "many teams in this league are in need of a centerfielder... maybe they'll go 'finding Nimmo.'" or some shit.

Here we go with positional inflexibility again.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:55 pmI'm not sure why Nimmo would sign for a team where a positional change would diminish his value.

I honestly don't know this, so I am asking - but are we committed to JRod in CF? If we landed Nimmo, why wouldn't we move JRod to RF? Julio played CF AND RF in the minors. In this article, a scout when he was in the minors said that he had a "legitimate right field arm".
https://www.forbes.com/sites/bernieples ... 0070611ff8
In this article, former Mariner Mike Cameron said “He told me three years ago that he was going to play center field and I was like, ‘You’re going to be too big to play center field. You’re going to be in right field, and that’s where you’re going to make your money at,'” He goes onto say that he changed this as his body changed, but the fact remains - might his body and arm be better suited for RF? He might not be blocked anymore with the departure of Mitch and the remaining flotsam of OFers we've got that might also slide into RF.

So I don't know. If we signed Nimmo, would it make more sense to move Julio to RF where he might be a better fit, even though he might prefer to stay in CF? Remove an emotional attachment we have to playing him in CF - what other reasons do we have to keep him there?

If its a 5-6 year deal he will be Corner by the end of it. Won't matter when he moves there.Seattle or Bust wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:55 pmI'm not sure why Nimmo would sign for a team where a positional change would diminish his value.Big_Maple wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 4:33 pmSo hopelessly vague as to be noncommittally irrelevant...
