Congrats to Julio on recognizing we had a major need in CF and putting in the work to go out and transition his body to the rigors of CF. That hole can easily be replaced. Nimmo would bring better CF defense just because that's the type of body and "Natural" athlete that he is. The FO doesn't need Julio in CF to be the face of the franchise. That is so laughable. Ok Ichiro! The point is moot until the M's go out and sign a CF or Nimmo regardless. Until then Julio IS our CF. So it makes no sense arguing about it, until the time actually comes. "IF" a signing does happen, well then that's an argument for another day.
Agree with all of this. But the "if" question arose earlier in this thread when the question was posed - "what happens to Julio in CF is we signed Nimmo?" There were 2 camps, basically - keep Julio in CF (resulting in posts about whether Nimmo would even sign if that were the case), or move Julio to RF (resulting in posts about whether Julio would move or be be a stick in the mud like JP and his love affair with the turf between second and third base).

So yeah - until he is signed this is all metaphysical navel gazing. But ain't that thepoint of this whole forum? :| :)

So hopelessly vague as to be noncommittally irrelevant...

What does "expressed formal interest" mean. Did they ask him if anyone was taking him to prom? Tell them they like the cut of his jib? Swipe right on his Tinder profile?

Either way, I suppose this is encouraging news.
They buy him dinner first?
It is how you do it. You find out if there is mutual interest.

Flexen is the one they're trading. Dipoto mentioned his name specifically at the GM meetings. They benched him for 95% of the second half of the season, seemingly as a way to manipulate cash which they ended up paying out anyway. Dumb as hell if you ask me, but the writing is on the wall.
The Mariners knew going into the season that Chris Flexen's option would vest if the righthander remained in the rotation for the first four months of the season. The M's thought Flexen's presence in the early rotation was worth it.

No attempted manipulation.
So they elected to bench a pitcher with a sub 4.00 ERA for the second half of a season for no other reason than "his presence in the early rotation" being "worth it?"

It wasn't a coincidence that as soon as he neared that innings number that they stopped him from pitching?

I believe they were forced to throw Flexen at times to save the bullpen but they wish they hadn't and that he hadn't met the innings number to vest his option.
Benched the second half of the season?

Pretty unexpected to see the Astros and their GM parting ways after just winning the World Series.

Doesn't look like Click has made many notable moves during his time there and the trade he wanted to make this deadline was rejected by the owner.

Interesting, didn't realize Crane was so hands on, so Stearns to Houston

I think it’s time to start breaking some news on Instagram, too. So follow me here for the latest free agent signings and trades.

Free agent reliever Rafael Montero and the Houston Astros are in agreement on a three-year, $34.5 million contract, sources tell ESPN.

They found something in him that they were able to tweak and tap into their advantage.

Reminds me of us signing Nicasio after he had one decent season. That signing is a win for us.

FWIW: Going down the rumor rabbit hole (from comments section of an MLB Trade Rumors post):
Jaysfan198110 hours ago
@KingFloch.

Im not that guy, if you follow Jays threads it’s clear there’s a poster who claims to have worked with the ORG and has contacts currently in the ORG etc etc.

I know someone plugged in to the jays through social media. There’s real talk Acuna is getting traded. Seattle and the Jays are 1/2 in the talks.

Bo Bichette is up for grabs. A 1/1 Acuna Julio has been proposed. There’s a few other teams involved

ACUNA is upset at ATL. Upset at AA for signing his current contract.

It’s his own fault. But he still feels taken advantage of

Take it as a grain of salt. It’s just a troll putting BS out there

Or…….????
