And this season he has an OPS of .842 and is on pace for 33 dingers. Ignore his WAR because his defense at first base drags it down. Personally, I don't think that's worth 27 million per season, but at least he's worth almost that and two years isn't long-term. We really should have expressed more interest in him.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:17 pmPete Alonso signed 2 years for $54 million. It is on the players now. Jerry delivered.

Evans is good as long as he doesn't pitch in a bandbox where his pitch-to-contact style kills him. He has a 2.60 ERA and 1.084 WHIP at home so he's not an automatic loss. The games in New York and Sacramento were what killed his numbers.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:19 pmI understand that but there's two months of games left that we need to win to get into the playoffs. I can see both sides of the coin really.DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:22 pmChampionships often come from teams sitting around .500 at the deadline. The latter is the hardest path taken though.
For the life of me why don't you just decide we're going for it this year and build the team accordingly in the offseason?
How many games in the first half did the Mariners lose by a run or two they no doubt could have won with the right build?
Now, there are no guarantees those products will win the world series. i.e. the 116 win season of the Mariners failed in the playoffs.
Then there is what Jerry just did at the deadline. I believe not of his own accord mind you. Arizona and the Ms are besties and that helped with these transactions. How many backdoor deals / paybacks / between GMs and player Agents / Agencies are made? We just don't know. I'm not saying Jerry is crooked as a nail but it's aweful fishy to me how guys like Solano and Garver and a few others we're given extended life over and over again and would've been dfa'd anywhere else. Just how my mind works.
Even now there are no guarantees this roster as pieced together is going to pan out.
We were stuck with if Julio and Cal don't score we're pretty much headed for a loss....to now at least have a fighting chance vs. the leagues's best.
It's on the players now.

If he’s at .842 he’s in a pretty serious slump. He was around .950 like a month ago.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:35 pmAnd this season he has an OPS of .842 and is on pace for 33 dingers. If we can pickup today a #4 or #5 starter we should. More importantly though imho is the 2nd half performances of Gilbert and Kirby. Those guys don't get it together we're toast regardless.DavidGee24 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:40 pmEvans is good as long as he doesn't pitch in a bandbox where his pitch-to-contact style kills him. Often? Over the last ten seasons not including 2020 the only teams that were anywhere near .500 at the deadline were the Braves in 2021 (52-54) and the Nationals in 2019 (57-51). And I'll bet that if you go back further that figure will drop to under 20%. Do you even THINK before you post this stuff?DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:22 pmChampionships often come from teams sitting around .500 at the deadline. Yep, was most likely only one single player that hits a baseball at the MLB level that could have been added. For crying out loud, why do you worry so fucking much about how much some billionaire sports owner spends? This group won't spend because they treat this as a business, and fans show up for 54%. Why do you give a shit if they pay Alonzo $56 million for two years to win his services?DanielVogelbach wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:17 pmPete Alonso signed 2 years for $54 million. No Salary cap, but this organization has self imposed one to the tune of one fucking playoff appearance in two and a half decades, and they make a couple of moves at the deadline for once, and all is supposed to be forgiven.
I've admitted I like these moves, what the fuck more do you want from me? In my opinion, it's too little too late. I HATE the philosophy that we only need to stay close, then save money by renting players, then do it all over again, and expect the fans to believe this bullshit that there is no money. They never needed to dump Suarez, but they were cheap. There were players available each and every off season since they started looking like a team that needed to add talent. They went cheap.
But let's all suck their dicks because they improved a product that was flawed....because of their actions. Praise them for saving the ship that they sunk! Stupid.

This is such a cliche fan rant. "They shoulda spent more money and signed the top FA bat available and made him the highest paid player on the team!"Michael K. wrote: ↑Thu Jul 31, 2025 5:55 pmYep, was most likely only one single player that hits a baseball at the MLB level that could have been added. Makes sense, since winning 54% every year and making one playoff appearance in a quarter century is good enough for you.
