The dude is a backup up catcher. What exactly do you expect? You're not going to have some .700 OPS guy as a backup unless you offer him starter money and promise him a bunch of time at DH. The Dodgers have a 500 Million dollar payroll and their backup catcher had a .583 OPS in 53 games. Yankees Backup Catcher had a .629 OPS in 60 games. If they try to run him out there as a DH 40 times like they did with Garver that's a problem but if he is just getting a start once a week at Catcher I think he will be fine.
They DFAd Seby Zavala on June 18th the season they traded for him. Cal started 120 games at catcher last season and everyone cried about him needing more rest so this guy will start at least 40. He did have an OPS of 1.000 last season so maybe he can put up at least .650 for us.

Clearly in a vacuum this is a who gives of F signing but just the 1000th reminder that all their decisions are primarily bottom line oriented vs. trying to win the most baseball games as they can.

I'm a bit surprised Blake Hunt wasn't on the M's radar.

Was given a fielding grade of 60 and arm of 55 in the Rays org.

.820 OPS in '25... 8 homers, 15 doubles in 68 games.

Elected free agency following the season.

Well, the Mariners have had lots of looks at him and they passed.
