Kind of an incredible deal for Castillo, getting rid of that money but also getting back anything useful in return. I'm surprised they didn't have to send money with Castillo to try and even things up. On the other hand, I'm continually surprised every year at the salaries given to mediocre starting pitchers in free agency.

I do suspect that Nolan Jones is a fraud though. He had that one good year in Colorado and has been on a steady decline ever since. But he's our fraud now I guess.
Hey best option against righties with Raley possibly done for. We just need a true 3b of the future for Kirby. We have no 3b going into next year. Jones should be better then Fairchild and has decent numbers just cant stay healthy

Dominguez the guy who served up the Granny to Suarez in the playoffs last year.
Canzone has been playing RF just fine.
OK then maybe some 3rd. Cantzone dh against rh so it works out. He plays rf against lh. So mostly dh. So thats where Jones fits in. Still need a 3b so not much out there unless Kirby can get us someone ready who is blocked.

Donovan is 3B IF healthy but you are very right about the future at 3B. Nothing there at all.
Yes but how healthy is Donno trully gonna be rest of the way. We do need a 3b of the future only part of the infield that is missing. Laz Julio and Arroyo got of covered. Dom at Dh and make Donno versatile gives some guys some days off. We still need full time 3b

He's owed $10.5M next year and probably around $2M for the remainder of 2026.

Castillo is actually owed $30M for the remainder of this year and 2027.

The M's saved about $18M in this trade.

That is unless I'm missing something and for some reason the teams trading for a player have to pay all of their salary despite 70% of the season being done... which I've never heard of.
I spaced on that but we are only 2/3 through the season so he is owed about $3M but whatever. Great trade.

Actually, there is a piece you all are missing in Castillo's contract. There is a vesting option for 2028 of $25mill that could be reached because Castillo could pitchn180innings. That makes it a possible bigger chunk of salary that the M's are dodging.
No it isn't because we would never let him get there...Sox might but that is irrelevant...

Well aware.

But no team in their right mind is letting him throw 180 innings.
Even if they did it has zero impact on us...

I would forget about Jones. He sucks ass. Have you seen what he has done the last few seasons in the big leagues??? And a .231/752 line with the Sox AAA team. Complete shit...Hasn't spent a second in the big leagues this season.

True can just make Canzone full time of. Call up Arroyo and make Randy full time dh. He is a better option then Fairchild though.

Addition by subtraction. If Seattle got ANY value in the pieces back the trade is a homerun.

Here is Dominguez's Savant page.

The obvious stats are the fastball velo, wiff %, K%, and walk %.

If the M's can get him to throw more strikes they've likely added a valuable bullpen arm.

Maybe better that Fairchild but I would think they are about equal. Maybe Arroyo and Randy share time at LF DH but they aren't moving Randy to full time DH. Next Season Smith and Arroyo can platoon in LF and Smith is BU Catcher. I might have said that already, cant keep track given I am posting on X.
