The sucky thing is that anyone that followed prospects knew Montero wasn't going to catch and there were doubts his bat would play at the ML level.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 2:22 pmThe main frustration with White of course being the money he's getting paid. Montero was touted as the next great Yankee slugger or some such nonsense that only seems to work on Mariner GMs. And Smoak was highly regarded in the Rangers organization, why i don't know.
Poll: most disappointing Mariners prospect

I went to Tacoma several times to watch him pitch and he was absolutely dominant. It's really too bad.D-train wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:14 pmRyan Anderson is now 42 yo 19th pick of the 1997 draft. Never made it.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:10 pmI started following the Mariners in the early 80's and don't remember him. I'm sure i forgot some other guys though. How about that 6'10" pitcher that was being touted as another Randy Johnson then got injured and never did anything.Donn Beach wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 3:05 pmAl Chambers was pretty disappointing, how's that for recency bias

That's just not true. It was pretty much unanimous that Montero was going to be able to hit.GL_Storm wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 9:31 pmThe sucky thing is that anyone that followed prospects knew Montero wasn't going to catch and there were doubts his bat would play at the ML level.Sibelius Hindemith wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 2:22 pmThe main frustration with White of course being the money he's getting paid. The Amazing M's have sure had their failures. Wonder how they compare against other teams?

Was Reed a highly regarded prospect? Don't remember much about him. Clement is one of several catchers including Zunino and another guy i forgot from about 12 years ago.Michael K. wrote: ↑Tue May 24, 2022 7:28 pmNo Jeremy Reed? What about the Clement kid that was supposed to be a middle of the order bat at Catcher?
Re: Poll: most disappointing Mariners prospect
They do seem to be pretty bad. But you're right that it's not as clear how good or bad they are vs. other teams. I've thought about building a database in excel and crunching the numbers but haven't done it yet. I should though. I think I could do it in a few hours probably.
