I do believe despite cheap ass ownership a team with the right personnel and mgmt can win a world series.
Problem is trader Jerry has passed his expiration date.
Dan was not supposed to be there.
Now we're in a pickle after a disastrous offseason.

"Blame it on the Rain?" I'd prefer to blame it on the Front Office and Ownership. Last year they squandered the stellar pitching staff. This year they are still squandering the pitching, though injured and not so stellar as last year. They don't want to spend money and they are perfectly content to be MLB's AAAA training squad. They want to develop players to trade to the other teams in the majors. They simply don't want to pay the salaries of PROVEN performers, raking in the cash while telling us they can't afford the players needed to jump to contender status. Instead they want cheap, not-ready for prime time players who have promise but no MLB track record. If we hold on to Cal after the 2027 season, I will be very surprised!

I despise this ownership group and FO worse than death but the farm system for other teams narrative is about 30 years old. Last good player I remember us trading is Tino. Am I missing someone???

Carlos Guillen, immediately goes on to have a monster career in Detroit.

They got crap for him too.

One of The Worst trades Ever!

Adam Jones had a decent career. Ketel Marte also.

The Jones trade was a bad one, but Marte in two seasons in Seattle showed the power of a field mouse. His career has been one of the more shocking one in MLB history.

Neither were established MLB players for us.

Both were buy trades so neither supports John's nonsensical hackneyed theory.

The Varitek and Lowe for Slocumb trade was brutal, but what I remember being more mad about was trading Jose Cruz Jr for two more relievers. Seemed like over kill. The Cruz was pretty mediocre, and we would have been far better off just making that trade and not trading for Slocumb!

I think that trade scared the Mariner organization so much that they haven't really done jack shit at the deadline since! It doesn't matter who the ownership group is, they must always look back at this move and decide it means we are cursed. I'm surprised they never made a Seinfeld episode about it! LOL

I still have PTSD from that one.
