Yet dozens of fans on X excuse it because we won the series. Btw why is it so much better to win 2 of three vs. the same team vs. two different teams? The obsession with series is wild to me.

You're right it doesn't. That fact that your team wins a series presents the short term feeling that your team is playing better.
You could also get that feeling from an 8 or 9 game winning streak.
A higher winning percentage at the end of the season doesn't even guarantee a playoff but typically a team over .500 qualifies now in MLB.
Analysis of past seasons shows that teams with around 85 wins (approximately a .525 winning percentage) often secure playoff berths.
That's even lower than Jerrry's 54 perecent threshold.
I was dead wrong on the win prediction contest this year. I thought this team would win at least 90 games.
They'll be lucky to win 80 at this point.
They've won the last 6 out of 9 games.
Does this mean they've turned it around?
Who knows?

How does Brian Woo manage a 1.08 Whip and a 4.10 ERA. Seems like those stats should correlate a little better.
He is 12th in baseball in WHIP and 43rd in ERA.
Nick Martinez is right behind him with a 1.10 Whip and has a 2.93 ERA.
You have to go all the way down to Noah Cameron who is 32nd in WHIP before you find another pitcher with an ERA over 4.00.

It's just a crazy Mariner thing. Miller and Gilbert have similar numbers and a couple seasons ago Gilbert had a 0.89 WHIP and a 3.23 ERA, an imbalance that is almost impossible to do and that nobody in MLB history has even approached. These guys just have a knack for giving up the big hits.

Blasphemy! You simply can't try to win every game, it's too long of a season and you just simply have to punt every third or fourth game. Obviously Philly doesn't get it. I mean, they are only 10 wins ahead of us in a far superior League...what could they possibly know about winning baseball games?

Perfect. Problem is that I have been asking for almost 50 years so that girl is now almost 70 yo and I don't even want her to say yes at this point.
