I wouldn't trade those two- especially Carlson- for Gallo when there are options available without subtracting talent.

Nothing wrong with examining Gallo as a trade target, but that's a steep price to pay.

MLB Trade Rumors discussed the future of Texas outfielder Joey Gallo:

Would anyone trade a combined 12 years of team control in outfielder Taylor Trammell and righthander Sam Carlson for two years of Gallo and one year of the underwater contract of Jordan Lyles?
I don’t think so.

Hard pass for me as well on Gallo especially for Trammell and Carlson. Texas would do that in a minute.

In keeping the seat warm for top outfield prospects, the 27-year-old Gallo would offer lefthanded power bat while providing insurance against the suspect return of Mitch Haniger. The 30-year-old Lyles would provide a righthanded innings-eater until the arrivals of top pitching prospects.

Lyles won me over in 2019 after I attended this gem days after the righthander was added to my fantasy team:

:D
I would do Trammel for Gallo but that's it.

The Mariners announced they signed reliever Drew Steckenrider earlier this month (h/t to Chris Hilburn-Trenkle of Baseball America). The 29-year-old broke into the majors with a pair of productive seasons with the Marlins but went down early in 2019 with a season-ending flexor strain. He spent all of 2020 on the injured list and was outrighted off Miami’s 40-man roster in October. The right-hander turns 30 in January.

A big fella 6’5”
In 2018, he struck out 74 in 64 2/3 innings, leading the team with 71 appearances and a 3.90 ERA. He also led the club with a 99 ERA+, as none of the 13 pitchers to qualify for the leaderboard could do as much as reach even league average. He was 4-4 with five saves and a 1.268 WHIP.

Steckenrider was a bit of a mixed-bag to start the 2019 campaign. In 14 1/3 innings over 15 total appearances through the first month of the season, he held the opposition to a 0.977 WHIP. Unfortunately, of the nine hits he allowed, six of them went over the fence which led to a 6.28 ERA
He had Tommy John surgery in 2014 and then missed all of 2019 with a flexor strain

Sounds like he needs surgery again

Sam Carlson may have a high ceiling but the righthander is a 22-year-old whose college and professional experience is limited to three innings in the Arizona Rookie League in 2017:

Perhaps a high reward but a high risk as well.

Returning their top three starters with multiple years of team control, the Mariners at some point may trade from their pitching prospect depth as Carlson currently ranks eighth among the club's pitching prospects at MLB Pipeline:
