I was surprised they went with Kirby over Swanson.

But if he holds up, maybe all the fielders stop pursuit, and if it bounces over his head, then JP has a good chance of getting a triple, maybe an inside-the-park home run.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:20 pmCan't believe it hasn't been mentioned but that was an idiotic play by Springer to dive in there with no chance of making the catch. With the tying run on first if he just plays it on a hop and comes up throwing he holds Frazier at 3B and there's a good chance they hold on from there to win the game.

It is his home ballpark. If he can't figure out how to keep it from bouncing over his head, he is even more of an idiot.ice99 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 3:56 pmBut if he holds up, maybe all the fielders stop pursuit, and if it bounces over his head, then JP has a good chance of getting a triple, maybe an inside-the-park home run.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:20 pmCan't believe it hasn't been mentioned but that was an idiotic play by Springer to dive in there with no chance of making the catch. A little tough to tell but it looks like it bounced maybe 8 feet in the air and landed right behind when it bounced initially.

First off, I am not sure either of them thought that they had no chance at that. It could save the game, most players are laying out in that situation.D-train wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 4:22 pmA little tough to tell but it looks like it bounced maybe 8 feet in the air and landed right behind when it bounced initially.

Second, I didn't get to watch one pitch of that game, was coaching all weekend. Luckily I missed the Huskies playing no defense in the Desert also. That said, watching those highlights....I know a lot of guys in here give our players a little flack for the attitude and the dancing, etc. Did you all see the Blue Jays after every run? Makes me wonder if it lit a fire under our guys. Jesus, act like you have been there before.

No reason for Bichette not to go for it but Springer could have saved the game by pulling up and letting Bichette go for it and fielding it on one hop.Michael K. wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 6:25 pmFirst off, I am not sure either of them thought that they had no chance at that. He didn't even come close to catching it as this shows:

Bichette almost caught it but I bet he slowed up when he saw Springer torpedoing in.

Re: Game Thread: Wild Card Game 2
Slowing it down, frame by frame? Sure, it looks as if the CF has no chance. But this comes down more to communication than anything else. If Springer is calling it, then Bichette is in the wrong. If Springer called it, he was wrong, because you don't call it if you can't catch it, but it is more about communication than being smart with effort. Not often people are going to criticize that type of effort.
Re: Game Thread: Wild Card Game 2
I don't know if anyone called it, but Springer is a giant pussy.
